#1. RE: [E36M3] Heat cycling street tires? - from dave spragg

Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2000 18:44:57 -0400 From: "dave spragg" <dave@spragg.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Heat cycling street tires? Yes, it will help. Of course not for traction I would think but for tire life. I have seen new high class street tires "chunk" when used hard with little or no highway usage on them. I don't know how much is needed to avoid this being the likely outcome of track and autocross usage but since they receive less effect from a single heat cycle than a track tire I would guess that 10 or more 1 hour trips would be in the ballpark but you could speed it up by using them to a reasonable degree in corners to put more heat into them... as once again they won't heat up as much on the highway as a track tire. Largely just guessing and applying logic here but I have seen $250+ brand new street tires chunk and it's a sad thing to see. #3. (e-36 M3) intermittent wipers - from vincent.a.leo@us.arthurandersen.com

Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2000 21:39:02 -0500 From: vincent.a.leo@us.arthurandersen.com Subject: (e-36 M3) intermittent wipers I am interested in upgrading to the variable intermittent wipers and I think I found the part number (Euro module: 61 35 8 369 474). Where can you buy one? More importantly, where is the stock module located. I just upgraded my wife's 2000 Volvo V70 and bent in positions I have not been in a long while, but the result was well worth it. Sorry for the cross-post! Asking only $350! Tires and wheels only have about 5,000 miles put on them. Rims have a few scratches, but still look good for winters. Traction in snow is great -- I passed a flipped over jeep on the Saw Mill a few months ago, no worries. Car is going back to dealer at end of lease. Stephen S. Kim jckssk@rcn.com

Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2000 23:49:20 EDT From: Ferf355@aol.com Subject: To Jim and Will Being 19 really isn't to exciting. My parents bought me a 98 M3 sedan because they wanted me to stop talking about cars, although i still do. The other day i was working at my parents store when i saw probably to most unseen, most "extravagant" car in Kalamazoo, Mi, a black 550 Maranello. I definetly had to take a double take because the first time i let it slip. Although i haven't bought anything yet from you guys (because everything i earn goes to gas and food), i think you guys are pretty dam cool. The reason that i say that is because i'm always reading online about how you two are so helpful to people that you encounter. Just things like how you guys give expert advice and do services without "charge." Of course i don't think that BMW's are the greatest cars in the world, but i do like the fact that you guys sell and produce ONLY BMW parts, it seems to me that you guys actually enjoy driving these machines rather than trying to rip people off. For goodness sake you have a classifieds section, that kinda says that you want to help others out. Other places sell various parts such as Honda, VW, Audi etc.. any don't really test out their products. I was just wondering what car(s) you guys drive and what you have done to them. Some of the cars i like are the S4, civic Si, 9-3 Viggen and of course the 993 turbo. Well anyways keep doing whatever you guys are doing now. Doug 98 M3 sedan(cosmos) B&B tri-flo(bought with open house donations) Summer plans are to earn enough and hopefully get an X-brace, Shark injector and Conforti's CAIS P.S.-i enjoy the Featured BMW section.

Date: Sun, 16 Apr 2000 22:20:57 -0700 From: Greg Koenig <gregk@innrspc.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] E36M3 #61 As per my last candid conversation with engineers there, Dinan gets their springs wound for them by a local company here in the Bay Area, one which mainly serves the shipbuilding industry. I don't really have a problem with that, other then the fact that they seem to snap rather often. I know two people who had Dinan springs snap, and a local "speed shop" type outfit (Motorsport 1, not that I think they are very good at mods, but they do move quite a bit of Dinan stuff) admits that Dinan springs suck, and they have had to cover a number of customers who had springs snap. I personally had one snap on my driver's side, and it caused the strut tower to crack when it went. They are incredibly cheep to manufacturer, and the big problem with them is the finish and the fact that there are a huge number out there with air bubbles in the metal (which causes the snapping problems).
