Ya see, I was rear ended by this big ass station wagon when I was crossing the Verrazano bridge in my Olds Delta 88. I saw the wagon coming in way too hot, but there was nothing I could do but watch and embrace.. Now every time I see a big ass SUV closing too fast for his/her own good in my rear view mirror on a slope, I cringe. It's also funny when you see some dumb ass tailgating you because you're driving an M3 and Mr. Boy Racer thinks he can show that he can keep up by tailgating ya ...and you think to yourself that if one good squeeze of the brakes would send him right into the back of you.... So you might be able to avoid what's in front of you, but the people behind you can't avoid you! DOH! Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The BMW brakes, especially on the M3 stop just wonderfully. For the street there's really no need to do anything. Sooooo. If you are thinking of upgrading it should be for track use to prevent fading. I have my personal doubts that an E46 to E36 brake swap will add the resistance to fading that you are looking for. That said, it seems like a waste of money to me. If you are trying to solve a problem, solve it right. Do the job the first time. Won't you feel like an idiot if you piss a couple of grand away and still have a problem? Save your pennies another couple of months and do the job the right way. In my mind there is the good frugal approach to add cooling ducts to stock brakes. Or there's the ultimate solution of adding brakes to the car that are meant to do the job. Depending on your home track and your braking ability you may get by with ducting. That is cheap enough that its worth a try. But you know my motto: Its your money. So you might be able to avoid what's in front of you, but the people behind you can't avoid you! DOH! Reminds me of a ride home last year from an autocross event. Driving about 80 in traffic too close together. Traffic brakes hard, I brake hard, slow too fast. Honda Civic behind me brakes hard, nose diving. Neon behind him brakes hard, losses it, goes into ditch, over corrects, shoots back up into traffic sideswiping a 1st gen Integra GS-R. Unfortunately I knew the driver in the GS-R, the Civic and a bunch of others in front of me. The Neon somehow snuck in between us as we were all caravanning home. Had to wait for about 1 hour for the state police.... Jeff '96 M3, lux, Conforti intake, Sharked, B&B, UUC STB, IL "M PWRD 3".

#8. Attitude adjustment, brake/brain fade - from Jim Powell

Date: Fri, 19 May 2000 16:50:51 -0700 From: Jim Powell <jsp98m3@home.com> Subject: Attitude adjustment, brake/brain fade Chester and Sean, In light of the current misunderstanding about mean people on the UUC Digest I wanted to clarify my last message. I just read it incoming and it sounded like I'm ticked or preaching. I'm not. Its one of those increasingly common days when I have to use both of my remaining brain cells for work. So when I was typing I was a little distracted and wrote pretty abruptly. I don't want to come off as some sanctimonious prick with a ****load of money in their car who belittles anyone else who doesn't do it the same way. There's enough peckerheads out there bragging about sending their car to ClubMed for retrofitting already. Just because I'm spending large on stuff doesn't mean its the *only* or even *best* solution. Again, sorry for any mistaken attitude that might be coming across. Jim

The latest fax from Russia says the wheels will be airfreighted next Wednesday or Friday. She wasn't sure of the turnaround time for powdercoating once they are here, but she promised to let me know early next week. I would expect they'll be shipping them out to customers within two or three weeks.
