Any suggestions on what tire pressures to run? My thought was to start at 49 in the front and 45 in the rears. If it matters, these are last years tires. Steve Hudson '97 M3/4

At 36f I could make my front tires roll over onto the sidewall, which is what you DON'T want. I agree with the rear tire pressures. That was with 235/40 MXX3's on a 95 M3 for two seasons, track tires or even street tires on the track and I would recommend something different of course. I usually run about 31-32 front and 29-30 rear. This seems to be right as when I come in and take my pressures they seem to be around 36 front and 38-40 rear. Now this is in the southeast so the hot weather might have something to do with the change in pressure. But that seems to work and the car just hooks up really well. Except this jerk decided to pull me over for "drafting" him. "You want me to show you what drafting is you fascist pig?" <---yeah in my dreams I could've said that maybe!! I really said, "sorry sir I'll keep the speed down", and I had to lie about the helmet/gloves/harnesses in the car. No ticket so maybe he wasn't a jerk afterall. :-) Carlos. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! #6. Dunlop8080E vs MXX3 vs Pilot Sports - from DOWZX@aol.com
Top
Date: Sat, 20 May 2000 21:15:39 EDT From: DOWZX@aol.com Subject: Dunlop8080E vs MXX3 vs Pilot Sports Well so far most people that've replied about the Pilot Sports have said that they weren't exactly worth their weight in gold. Has anyone tried out the Dunlop 8080E on an M3 yet, and if so how do they compare to the Mxx3

No tire gets a perfect 10 on every aspect of performance--they all have strengths and weaknesses. The tire that's best for you depends on the priorities you place on the different aspects. I have no personal experience with the Dunlop 8080 but I don't think I've ever read anything very positive about it on the list. Has anyone tried out the Dunlop 8080E on an M3 yet, and if so how do they compare to the Mxx3 I recently replaced the stock 8080Es to 235/35-18 Pilot Sports on BBS RCs. During the last week of rain here in Chicago, I can attest to the superior handling of the Sports in the wet. As far as dry traction, I did not like the Dunlops at all. Their turn-in response was good, but their limits weren't the best. I didn't think they belonged on the M3. The Sports are also better in the dry, but not as significantly as in the wet. I have to take these Sports to the track to really know, but these are my first impressions. Another area of variabilty to consider is the fact that I changed tire sizes and wheels sizes. The Dunlops were the stock staggered setup, whereas the Sports area different size mounted on lighter+bigger wheels. Steve 99 M3

Date: Sat, 20 May 2000 23:03:14 -0800 From: "Michael Lord" <michaellord@uswest.net> Subject: Goodbye for now! Well folks! The time has come for me to go! I feel that everything I want to know about the E36M3 has been said and I feel I have said everything I want to say about the E36M3! This has been a fabulously entertaining and informative list to be on. My involvement with it over the last couple of years has been an important part of my life. But hey! I don't even own an M3 anymore! I'd rather race than lap (which is using up an incredible amount of my usable spare time), business is booming (which is using up the rest) and I doubt I will buy an E46 unless they really do come out with a LTW version. To much luxury and not enough sport for my taste. I am grateful for the many fine people I have met and to all of you for indulging me to the extent that you have. There are those of you who will be welcome in my hood whenever your in town. You know who you are. If you are unsure whether I am talking about you or not give me a shout anyway OK? Suzy Kraft! You Rule! I can't believe you put up with all of us as well as you do. Thank you! You are absolutely on the list of people welcome in my town any time! Y'all take good care of this woman or I'll have to come back on the list and kick your collective Butts (assuming Suzy hasn't already whipped you into submission on her own). Thanks again. All for now. Cheers! Michael Lord Seattle 88 325is, 93 325is ITS race car, 96 Suburban

I think they are really expensive and probably would not indulge in them again. The main reason for the indulgence was that my M3 came with the Dunlop 8080Es. Are they good? They're okay, but when some people get Michelin Pilots and you get stuck with Dunlops, you get a bit envious. They are definitely not worth the ~$250 or so that the dealers will charge you. Right now, my thinking is that if I'm going to track or autox the car, I would get a set of wheels with dedicated rubber. For the street, you really aren't going to push the car that hard, are you? Going for something with good rain handling and overall good grip should be good enough. Yok AVS Sports? Much cheaper.
