I'll look into it. BMW seats must be dyed differently because the darker shade of "light gray" leather on my Suburban didn't have any problem with the same damn cheap belt. Heck, numerous times I've gotten into it (Suburban) in the rain with my (wet) leather coat (black) without having stained the seat. Go figure. Oh well, whatever. I guess when my shark injector comes in, that should take my mind off it... Perhaps by then I might have to worry about sweat stains on the steering wheel... hehehe... (by the way i have stock springs and sway bars, with koni shocks so my car is pretty much "stock") a032r. ok grip in dry. pretty good in rain. lasts a long time. loud. the best compromise. (at least it's the right size) khumo. better grip. lasts a descent time. but it doesn't come in the right size. it's too tall and too thin so the performance suffers. toyo. ok grip. pretty good in rain. lasts a long time. again the wrong size. it's as wide, but taller. so they rub on my inner and outer fenders. (so even if i rolled my fenders they'd still be rubbing on the inside) hoosier. great grip. worthless in the rain. expensive. fragile. don't last long. pretty close to the right size. gscs. great grip. worthless in the rain. expensive. don't last long. a little too big. might have rubbing problems again. summary. if you have lots of money (4 times as expensive considering price and wear) and lots of sunshine, try hoosiers or gscs tires. they perform great. if you want tires that cost 1/4 as much, work in the rain or dry, are the right size, stick with a032rs. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Not REAL off-road knobbies, but more like SUV with highway/off-road knobbies. Interestingly mine quieted down somewhat after I ran one autoX on them, I figured scuffing edges took some of the noise off. So now, with warmer weather, if I have sun-roof and both windows open I can't hear them over wind noise anything over 60 mph. Also they are loudest at 45 and 25 mph +/- 3-4mph. Once out of these ranges, they are not too bad. For the fun factor, handling, grip, and price ($159 vs. $245 for Pilot Sports) I'll gladly live with this very tolerable noise. I think I am going to have BMW Financial rewrite the lease for one more year and buy myself sometime and hopefully get the M3 for 1500 over invoice like I did with my present one (one can only hope). With the way I drive, I do think that I'll HATE the S4, and like an M3 list should, not one of you urged me to pursue that direction. As for the poor excuse Y rated junk they put on that car, yes, the Pirelli P6000's are utter trash, and because of it, that car couldn't stop worth a damn. Remember, our Z rated Pilots are OEM on the king daddy Big Mac F-1;-) Andy 98 M3 black/black __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The top spot there was an S2000. Gary Thomason edged out G.H. >Sharp, who btw has traded his M3 for a '00 Boxster. Gary Thomason crushed us. It wasn't even close. Gary is an amazing driver, his multiple Solo II national championships in the toughest classes attest to that. However, it does look like the end of an era for the E36 M3. For five years it was one of the cars with a chance to win the national championship in A-Stock, but I don't believe that is true anymore. The 2000 Boxster has just enough improvements from the factory over the previous models to take it to the next level above the M3. The 2000 S2000 is the new top dog in the class. I don't believe there is anything in A-Stock that can touch it right now, and they are running them bone stock. Wait until they have shocks and front swaybars... >I've driven an S2000, I honestly don't know how one of these torqueless >wonders can perform well on an autox course. Actually, all the other cars in A-Stock have the torque advantage over the M3. The M3 has too much torque for the typical tight corners in autox, it just can't put the power down. While all the other cars in the class can be practically full throttle from the apex and beyond. Only on the stickiest concrete and large flowing courses does the M3 have a chance, and neither are present at the Solo II nationals. Remember, my perspective is from the national level, where two tenth's of second is considered a butt kicking and as many as 15 drivers will be within one second of the winner. I am committed to running my M3 this year at the national level, however, it will be the last. Next year I am inclined to run it or a new M Coupe with the E46 M3 motor in regional autocrosses until I can afford a S2000 for A-Stock national competition. Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 10:59:39 -0700 From: Ken Robb <kenrobb@willisallen.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] M3 vs. the tax man [long] Since I am a real estate broker I'm a bit biased but I don't think you should be compromising your ability to buy a home ASAP by overspending on any car. In most parts of the country re prices are going up faster than anyone can save so the sooner you lock in your housing costs by owning v.renting the sooner you will be able to spend more on cars, if that's what you want to do with your disposable income. I blow mine on cars and motorcycles. To consider the expensive car costs that you are you must be in a high income bracket with relatively high taxes so Uncle Sam is going to make a large portion of your house payment for you. Most first time home buyers have more trouble coming up w/the down payment than they do making the monthly nut so Uncle Ken's advice: lease something affordable, gather your cash for a down payment on a home[condos are ok], and get on the appreciation bandwagon. Your net income after taxes should look a lot better since you will be writing off much of your car and home expenses. See your financial advisor for details. When the lease is up on this next car there should be deals on M3's if you still want one. In the meantime, get an instructor at a driving school to teach you the techniques of preserving momentum. I got pretty good at keeping up with M3's in my 325i and we have Darren Young who's really good at it because he races a 1600 in ITC. Remember, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. Ok, a fast car driven fast is perhaps even better.
