Would the coupe lights be different than the sedan? Just wondering, since the Euro lights I have on my car are ZKW (purchased from Bekkers Imports, IIRC). Not sure but I highly doubt it since the ZKWs were used on all the other M3 variants (sedan, conv. etc). They both work with the headlight vertical aim control. Differences: Bosch only offered yellow lenses. Bosch only one used for right-hand drive cars. Difference in weight - at least according to BMW specs. Bosch: Left/Right = 5.34/5.34 lbs. ZKW: Left/Right = 7.71/5.51 Don't ask me why. :-) > Man, there are too many Jim's on this list! :-) But apparrently only one "great" one. Sheesh, like he needs help inflating his ego :-) LOL! #3. Who me? - from Jim Powell

Date: Fri, 02 Jun 2000 13:42:46 -0700 From: Jim Powell <jsp98m3@home.com> Subject: Who me? Ok. I finally received all of the emails and figured out what the heck is going on. David has a new M5. He saw my writeups regarding Porsche brakes and figured he would ask me a few questions before buying, after buying and so on. I told him what I knew and had discovered about my brake kits. That's it. I'm certainly not great. And I don't think I have a big ego. There are some things I admit to: - I *DO* write people back that send me emails asking questions. - I *DON'T* talk down to people who know less than I do or tell them they are too stupid to understand what I'm telling them. - I *DO* admit I'm only an average driver at best. - I *DON'T* take credit for stuff I don't do. - I *DO* try and deliver more than I promise. - I *DON'T* hold back knowledge, whatever I know, I'll tell you. - I *DO* try and share whatever I have that you don't. Wanna use a lift, comeon over. - I *DON'T* hesitate to admit when I'm wrong. And finally, if somebody is screwing up, I'll say so. I don't care who you are or think you are or what you've accomplished. You have to treat people right. None of that makes me great or special. Those of you who have met me know I try and be the most unspecial person possible. But I'll tell you what I think in a heart beat. Just ask me :) I'm just another schmuck with a car habit. I may waste a bit more money on it than most. But it beats being a drug addict. If I'm coming across as an egomaniac, I'm sorry. I'm just having fun. Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 16:34:09 -0500 From: "George M. Kofman" <sdg2@execpc.com> Subject: Skip Barber - Car Control Clinic Just completed my CCC Advanced Activity with Barber at Road America yesterday. It was a mixed bag. Driving a Dodge truck on a wet skidpad was kinda cool. understeer. CPR. Powerslide. Drove an auto-X course in a Neon with AC on. slow, but boy to the FWD cars trailbrake well into decreasing radius turns ! did the same in the Viper GTS ACR. lotsa balls, heavy car, for for 80K do you think they could have added a dead pedal ? the 20-yr old instructor sez "just rest it on the floor." great idea. did ya' know the GTS comes with OE harnesses ? yeah. adjustable pedal rack, so any size driver can get comfortable, but no dead pedal. did I say it's FAST ? scary FAST. brakes are not as good as the ///M3 though. scary thought. I'd hate to be that Viper owner who "needs" an extra 150-200HP. then it was onto Formula cars on the skid pad and the Auto-X. as we started doing the skidpad, it got COLD. WAY COLD. and we are all wet from the sprinklers and the wheels spraying water into the cockpit. When I got out of the cockpit 1.25hrs later, I was soaked and freezing. The dryest part of my body were my feel. I had to buy a t-shirt just to get dressed. underwear, t-shirt, inside oif the helmet - all wet. the driving suits are totally not water proof. I hear they are made of Nomex and are fire retardant, but we weren't going to test that. Anyone currently racing in the Skip Barber Formula Dodge series ? or starting up with Barber ? Anyone doing same at Road America - drop me a line. GMK '97 M3 sedan PS Sure hope my lapping day on 6/25 at RA is going to be in the dry.

I'm really pressed for time this afternoon. I have a bunch of issues with a new S/W release we put out today. I'm reading too much into stuff I guess. This is the part where Chester yells DOH! at me. If anyone here knows the command structure for an Alcatel 1633, write me! Jim

#10. LTW Bumper Reinforcement - from Arturo Regalado
Top
Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 15:34:43 -0700 (PDT) From: Arturo Regalado <aros68@yahoo.com> Subject: LTW Bumper Reinforcement I recently bought a '95 LTW and being the perfectionist that I am I took the car the other day to a body shop because at the Winterfest at Sebring some guy in a 993 turbo (the newest one, a'98 I think, with huge slicks!!)couldn't shake me and threw up a lot of the usual crap that's at Sebring and wouldn't you guess it?? totally chipped my hood and bumper/spoiler assembly!!!! Anyway, the body shop person calls me up when they're disassembling the bumper and asks me if it's ok to take off the bumper reinforcement in order to remove the bumper to paint it separately. It turns out that the bumper reinforcement is a thick, black, metal plank which serves as, I understand it, to counter the downforce so the bumper doesn't buckle under. But, here's the thing, I was told that this black reinforcement plank has additional "rods" supporting it. Does this sound right to anyone?? Honestly I don't know, this person thought that it was a custom job, "although beautifully done". She went on to tell me that the whole thing must weigh some 100 lbs!! If anyone is very familiar with the underside of the LTW and could tell me if this sounds right I would very much appreciate it. Otherwise, someone has tinkered with what I was led to believe was a totally stock car, at least body-wise. Toodles, Art __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
