As soon as I get the rollbar and seats in, I'm done with her. I'm upto my eyeballs in Porsche literature. I'm done buying BMWs, at least the supposed sporting ones. I'll keep the M3 as a track car, that's all it is now anyway, and get a Boxster S for street duty in the next 1-2 years after my kids take over the E30 and they bump the HP to 300 for the 2002 model year. My 95 M3 is going to be replaced - as it turns out - by a 1997 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo Euro Spec with all of 2,500 miles on it. It's a long story but it is owned by a long-time friend of mine who is a producer. He has purchased a Diablo VT to go with his 10 other cars and is now bored with it, so he offered to sell it to me for WAY below wholesale. Being the kind soul that I am, I of course accepted. My newly acquired 72 2002's stainless steel bumpers are all fogged up with thousands of fine scratches caused by years of careless car washes. Sorry about the off-topic. I'm planning on removing mine (broken & useless w/Euro headlights IMO) in preparation for future brake-ducting. In the interim, I wanted to put a cover over the open hole. I seem to vaguely recall there being a BMW part for this? Does anyone recall this, or have the part number handy? Thanks, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - Foglights? We don't need no stinkin' foglights :-)

And oil filters Last Friday I was chatting with the parts manager at our local dealer BMW of Murray. He relayed that BMW was having some problems with there extended oil change intervals, not with the oil, but with the filters. It seems that the filter was breaking down, literally apart, before the approximately 15k oil service interval. The new Slovenian filter must be the new "better" filter. For this group I bet the point is moot, when was the last time you changed your oil and filter at 15k? Max Dufford 97 M3

The 5W-30 is made by > Castrol. > > I decided to pass on the lightweight oil, and will purchase some Mobil 1 > 15W-50 since I'll be doing some track events over the next few months. Hi Ron, I too decided to pass on the lightweight oil, for the same reasons. I had been using the 5W40 and had been experiencing a bit of the "usual" oil consumption, but keeping the level at the MAX mark eliminating the characteristic ticking for track & autox events. On the recommendation of Mark Dadgar (Hi Mark!) and the Red Line web site (http://www.redlineoil.com/), I went with their 10W40 on my last change (quoting from the 10W40 description: "Red Line 10W40: ...Best choice for high-performance engines that see street as well as frequent racetrack duty..." (Seems like that describes a lot of us :-)) So far so good. I haven't had a chance to check the oil level after this weekend's track event, but the level had remained constant from last week's track event through the subsequent daily driving (I usually see a 1/2 qt drop a couple of days after a track event) and through this weekend's event. My 2 cents, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4
