Be sure not to over-tighten when putting it back in, the threads on the oil pan, and on the plug, are easy to strip. The oil filter cover uses a 13 mm socket if my memory is right. A good source for the oil filters is Steve D. at The Ultimate Garage. http://www.ultimategarage.com/ I've been using Mobil 1 15W-50 in my '95 M3 with good results. Hope to see you come out to Texas World Speedway sometime with your new ride. The Porsche Club, Motorsports Club, and others do driving schools there on a very regular basis, there is usually one or two schools in any given month. Plenty of track time :) - Rich '95 M3 '97 528i

Leaving the threaded bolt in the oil pan. And you without a ride to the auto parts store for a set of EZ-Outs. Ask me how I know. Anyway, 25NM is a LOT less torque that I would have thought it was. #3. Failing OBC display... - from juan_rico

I don't have the full OBC setup, but the few functions that I do have have become totally illegible. The display is not lighting up properly. Is the fix for this simply replacing the 3 or 4 light bulbs behind the display (like when my clock went dead) or is this some sort of problem with the unit itself? Thanks for any tips! Juan.

Like you, I don't have the full OBC, just the 'check control / temp display' Similar thing has happened to me twice already - vertical lines would simply drop out. Both times it was under warranty, and got replaced no questions asked. Last one got put in speaks german, haven't had a chance to try out the instructions that got posted yesterday.. Anyway, since it is an LCD panel display, I don't think you can just replace a bulb & have it start working (but somebody correct me if I'm wrong, cause I'm sure it'll happen to me down the road!). What I noticed was that if you keep the OBC thing on long enough, most of the missing vertical lines would light up after a while. Like an hour or two - not really practical. I doubt replacing it would be all that hard, whatever wires come into the back are all probably in one big connector or something like that. I'm curious here as well, because I'm sure it's only a matter of time with my display. My roommate told me a story once[1]. Apparently, at one point BMW engineers came up with a prototype car for BMW brass to drive. The hood of the car was sealed, and was supposed to contain one very special engine. After said brass drove the car, they were very impressed with its performance, and wanted to know more about this engine. At this point hood was opened to reveal a MB production engine, which far exceeded anything BMW had at that point. Point being MB has _more_ of a reputation of being an "engine" company, than BMW does. Gleb Footnotes: [1] He drives a P-car, so you can't really trust him :-)

#7. cracked tranny brace - from drwillb
Top
Date: Tue, 6 Jun 2000 17:33:29 -0400 From: "drwillb" <drwillb@idt.net> Subject: cracked tranny brace Just thought I'd share this with everyone. This past weekend I installed a UUC muffler (beautiful quality and ballsy sound) and the UUC tranny mounts and enforcer. When I took the tranny brace off the car I noticed that both forward bolt holes had cracks at the front edges. I am the second owner but to my knowledge the car had very few track days during its 47k miles. You can go to the following to see the pictures http://photos.yahoo.com/drwillb , you'll see the tranny mount album. Anyway, thought some of you might want to take a peek at your braces at this point. As far as the tranny enforcer is concerned, I highly recommend it. Shifting takes on a very positive feel. There is no doubt that you're hitting the gate for 3rd when upshifting and the chance of a 5th - 2nd downshift seems much less likely. This is definitely a very inexpensive aid in decreasing the possibility of an over-rev and it only takes minutes to install. (e-mail me directly for a quick tip to installation). Usual disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with UUC, but I am a very satisfied customer. Bill M 95 M3

I purchased a set of foglight covers (black) from Stevens Creek BMW ($21.34 w/CCA discount) and will be removing the foglights & installing the covers in the next day or so. And thanks to those that have related their UUC swaybar install experiences last month. I should be installing mine this week. Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - so much new stuff, it's "Christmas in June" :-)
