For both units, you send them your >helmet, and they attach the device to the helmet, and send it back. I've been using the original version ($725 indeed -- I looked at my '98 expenses) for over two years now. I'm very happy with it. Surprisingly, I've met only two other people on the West coast who have one. One thing the article failed to mention is that wearing the HANS is much more comfortable than having two shoulder straps (even with extra shoulder "pads") dig into you. The HANS distributes the force of the belts over your entire upper body, making it _very_ comfortable to drive for long times in the car. It's very light, too. I use it with two different Bell helmets -- a non-visored and a visored one. The mods they make to your helmet include adding a bunch of straps -- the straps stay on the helmet, so you can change helmets in 20-30 minutes. When I switched to the visored helmet I just sent them the helmet to do the mods -- I think it was $75. FWIW, I'm 6', 165 lbs, 44 or 46 size jacket, and it fits me very well. ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@netcom.com

Or try this place http://www.genjac-greasesvc.com/ in South Carolina, I'd guess they service a lot of the short track guys without much money. Now, those Nascar teams alledgedly just throw their $1200 Brunhoezels away after every three races. I reply: A good friend that works in the NASCAR world informs me that this is incorrect. The jacks are rebuilt when they wear out, not thrown away. WC teams have a lot of money, but throwing away expensive jacks isn't in the cards. By the way, I was in the garage area a couple weeks ago and noticed that they use the regular, heavy, steel jacks when doing regular work on the car to save the expensive aluminum ones from wear. #6. [E36M3] WillowSprings-July 9? - from twisty M3

Just thought I'd check if anyone on the list is going to Willow Springs on July 9th? If nothing else, I can at least pass the info on since it would be nice to have a good M3 showing. Speed Trial USA is putting on a one day event and it's only about $120 for the day (big track). From my understanding, because it's only one day, it's not actual time trials but just practice... still a fine excuse to spend the day at the track. I believe you can go with or without an instructor. Anyway, I know a few other M3 owners that will be attending and it would be nice to meet some more people from this list (or see some of you again). #7. Driving/Racing Schools - from Peter Guagenti

Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2000 08:26:17 -0700 From: "Peter Guagenti" <peter@guagenti.com> Subject: Driving/Racing Schools After hearing about how much fun it is from all of you, I am looking to take a driving or racing school. I contacted my insurance company and they said that my car is _not_ covered, so my wife (who happens to work in corporate insurance) has said it is a no-go in the Bimmer. So, assuming I still want to do it, what are my options? I've already contacted Skip Barber, are there other options? Is it possible to rent a car for the day? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks! -peterg
