I can't imagine thinking the stock M3 exhaust is too loud. My AA exhaust is louder and I can barely hear it while cruising. On second thought, maybe I'm so old I'm losing my hearing! I should have mentioned that before. It's sort of an oscillating sound, maybe something is rubbing, but it's weird cause it stops either when the clutch is fully depressed, or I turn off my AC. I need to hear it again to describe it better (My Car is in FL and I'm in TN, so it'll be awhile). Maybe because I didn't get my idle bumped? And running the AC is affecting something at low idle? Anyway, thanks for the input. Date: Wed, 14 Jun 2000 20:06:40 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: 0-60 times Jim, >Car and driver did.. 5.1 I believe in a stock M3. 0-60 times depend as much on tires and driver as they do on HP.< Are you sure? We know all the hoopla they raised with their most recent M3 test, recording that infamous 6.0 seconds in a '99. They also reviewed a '96 in 5.7 sec. Do you happen to know which issue you saw it in, cause none of the road test digests I have in the backs of my copies has it. thanks _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <15000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger

The only way to get good times is to "abuse" the car a bit which IMHO isn't something I'm willing to do. Jim

Since then, I've made some changes to route the intake air better, and I'm confident I'd now hit the 4.7 or 4.8 the magazine reviewers found with a similarly equipped car, such is the increase I can feel from the intake mods...Only problem is I hate 'driving it like you hate it' , like you have to do to ring the best out of it! Oh well, maybe just once more....Actually, since the best times are achieved with less wheel spin rather than more, and with a lower speed clutch dump rather than higher, perhaps launching at 2200 rpms with little fanfare maybe Can deliver the best times, without beating up the drivetrain too much ;--/ But, its that powershift to second that gets you. _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <15000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger -----Original Message----- From: Land Shark <lndshrk@xmission.com> To: Paul Elliott <pelliott@rcn.com> Cc: E36M3 <e36m3@bmwmpower.com> Date: Wednesday, June 14, 2000 8:10 PM Subject: Re: 0-60 times > >Paul, I'm pretty sure it was 5.1.. might have been 5.3 though >anyway it was THE M3 issue.. with the Yellow 95 on the cover. > >The only way to get good times is to "abuse" the car a bit >which IMHO isn't something I'm willing to do. > >Jim > > > >

Sean has contributed a lot to this list and now is struggling with a decision and wants some helpful advice. If that's too much for you to handle, perhaps you should be the one to leave. #11. Tire Wear - from JEwords@aol.com
Top
Date: Wed, 14 Jun 2000 20:32:14 EDT From: JEwords@aol.com Subject: Tire Wear The rear tires on my '95M3 seem to be wearing out much faster in the center of the tread, which used to be considered a sign of running over-inflated, but I watch the tires pressures carefully. Unless my imagination is running away with me, the right side seems to be worse than the left. This is a bone stock car -- no track time, no mods. The fronts have no such wear pattern. Any ideas?
