I have heard there are some non-radio functions in the radio circuitry... maybe alarm? I have the factory alarm installed if it matters? I am contemplating upgrading the entire system. Any other relevant advise would be appreciated, particularly any experience with bass enclosures. Thanks, John

The crossover gets power from the old amp location, and the amp gets power from the battery and is grounded to the Airbag sensor ? under the rear seat." I suspect you need a much, much better ground. I don't know the details, but the ground wire needs to be the same gauge as the power wire (large) and solidly grounded to the chassis. Last time I did this, I ran the ground to a bolt screwed into the chassis frame, used gold-plated connectors, sanded the paint down to metal, and spread a thin layer of electrically-conductive grease around. I believe it was 10 gauge wire.

I've driven "race" cars that were >full >tube frame chasis and I have to say that my father's LTW with 1200# >coilovers and all the works is fairly close to being a race car itself, and >my 325 isn't too far behind. i race production cars. 325s, 2002s, and rx7s mostly. i know i could make my M3 close to (or as good as) a race car. and i might very well do that. but right now it's not. it's got stock suspension, and a couple engine mods, and a harness bar. in THAT FORM it's nowhere near the handling of a race car, but is not much more "convient" then a race car. (no back seat, no cruise, no cupholders, etc.) that's my "dilema". i either need to take my non-convient car and go all out (coilovers and the like) or get a car that's convient. (even if it's a differnt M3) not sure which way to go yet. >Maybe you are talking about a formula car as a "race" car, to which I would >say, yes, thats a completely different experience!! A rather enjoyable >experience! > >If you are looking to try out a formula car, you might want to check with >the Panoz school. They are supposed to be getting some school formula cars >that will be 185+ hp, probably the fastest formula cars in the driving >school business, plus you get to drive them at the famed Road Atlanta. the only thing that's keeping me from formula cars (probably formula mazda) is rain. i'm a rain wuss. i LOVE to drive in the rain, but i don't like to be WET. and you'll get wet in a formula car if it rains. living in seattle, half our races are in the rain. so... i'm in a car wiht a roof still. maybe if i move to california i'll try a formula car career. ;-) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

#9. Re: 4 VANOSes (only 4?) - from Dennis Bowcut

Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 11:18:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Dennis Bowcut <dbowcut@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: 4 VANOSes (only 4?) Hunter commented on Sean's abuse and warranty replacement of the VANOS: "Two words: Lemon Law. Insist on talking with the District Zone Manager from BMW. He will get to the bottom of it." This is great comedy, and certainly shows what a shoddy design the M3 is. Yep, it's too bad Sean's demolishing VANOS at such a rapid rate, but 50 track days a year might be stressing his relatively stock baby a bit. What's interesting is that the dealer even needs to remove track related goodies to do the free replacements, cool. Of course Seattle-ites are generally much nicer than average people anyway. I wish we had such compliant dealers here in Si Valley. I recall a few months back, stories about dealers going to any lengths to avoid warranty repairs, like collecting the local autocross results, watching for those drivers to arrive with issues, and refusing support. Maybe one answer, Sean, might be to just keep the rental Taurus, get some NASCAR mods and kick M3 butt at SIR. Hey, no VANOS, and you'd get to deal with some really nice Ford people. Could they possibly be as snotty as most BMW dealers? Oops, one issue: if you changed the Taurus to compete with the likes of an M3, it just might not be any more fun than slogging through the Northwest mildew in the ole bimmer ;-) Dennis '97 M3/4 with sticky VANOS __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? He will get to >the bottom of it. If the EPUR gets too >high, BMW NA will insist on the DZM approving ALL heavy tech work, like >engine and transmission, and maybe even medium and light tech work). > >How exactly does BMW NA think *you* are breaking these things? That's >the real question. actually my dealer is being damn nice about it. it's BMW NA that's being asses. they refused to warrenty my repair this time. so the dealer fixed it for free and took the loss themselves. that's damn nice of them if you ask me. they just said that they wouldn't do that next time. (i don't blame them) but... noone seems to know what's wrong still... it's hard for me to yell at someone (the dealer) who's paying $1000 of his money to fix my car, even if he can't solve the problem. and i can't seem to get the opportunity to yell at BMW NA. anyone know how (or if) i'm allowed to talk to them? or where to send letters? the answer from bmw na for why it's breaking is "you race". the dealer knows i take my car to the track. and bmw na knows it. and that seems to be answer enough for them. they are basically saying "our vanoses can only stand up to 3 days of racing" (i go about once a month these days, and it lasted 3 months) "so... if you insist on racing you are gonna have to pay" good thing they don't put that in their ads. at this point i don't even want it fixed for free. i just want it fixed. and they (bmw na) are incapable of doing it. next time it breaks i'm gonna take it to one of the shops (stictly bmw) in town that deals with race cars, and let them fix it. i'm sure they can find the problem. even if it means "buy a new engine, yours is dead". ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
