#1. [E36M3] WTB: M3 coupe center shift console shroud - from GSM M3

Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 14:33:07 GMT From: "GSM M3" <carpediemm3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] WTB: M3 coupe center shift console shroud Morning folks, I’m in need of the center shift console shroud of the 5 speed ’99 M3 coupe. I’m guessing that they all came in black, and are configured identically. However, in the event they have differed through out the 90’s, then here is the description I’m looking for: It needs to be all black, and in perfect condition, secondly, I don’t need any of the buttons/switches, and lastly the layout, the left side has the central door locking button, and the drivers window button, the right side has only the passenger window button, and the rear has the 3 inch (approx.) wide hazard button. The 3 year old son, managed to put a gash in the right side when my back was turned – I’m letting him play w/ the neighbors Rotwieler today!! Perhaps one of our racers has one left over he would be willing to sell/part with. Many thanks, Greg '99M3/2 ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

#2. replacing front lower control arms - from Holeman, David

Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 09:58:42 -0500 From: "Holeman, David" <david.holeman@viaticus.com> Subject: replacing front lower control arms Hi, Thanks for the feedback from many members. Although the aluminum ones are a possible solution I decided to just replace the existing ones with the steel ones despite Jims encouragement: The E30 pieces are non-stock and cost more. Therefore they are required. Go ahead David. You have our permission to spend the money :) Accourding to a fair number of folks you have to replace the whole assembly. Folks also indicated that you should check for any play in these joints after each drivers school or race. Some indicated that you can expect to replace these after about a dozen race events. Looks like these are, yet again, another consumable item :( David Holeman www.racepad.com

Yeah, I was a little surprised to see the LTW version's numbers being so close to the regular coupe, which is at least 250 TO 300 pounds heavier. David Tow>> If I recall correctly, although the stock 95 M3 could reach 60 MPH in 2nd gear, the LTW's 3.23 rear end limited its acceleration time by necessitating an upshift to 3rd to achieve the same speed. I would expect the LTW's 0-50 time to be a number more representative of the performance its power:weight ratio delivers. -Matt ____________________________ matt@shortshifter.com -----Original Message----- From: david tow [mailto:david_tow@hotmail.com] Sent: Monday, June 19, 2000 6:50 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] RE: 0-60

#4. BMW at LeMans - from Ed Tang

Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 09:11:13 -0700 (PDT) From: Ed Tang <etangf1@yahoo.com> Subject: BMW at LeMans >...Sure, we'll never really see Formula One technology in>the M3. I believe the E30 M3 block was a descendant of the 1983 1.5 liter turbo world championship engine, so I wouldn't bet against the F1 technology getting to the Exx M3. There is no doubt F1 technology trickles through, however, I feel that the info a manufacturer gets out of LeMans is more applicable to production vehicles. F1 cars are built to last the hour and a half of racing then things pretty much get rebuilt. I believe LeMans takes formula technology and really tests its endurance capabilities. I think my point and Chester's was that LeMans would be a better platform for production vehicles. >However, I believe hands down that I will find >better overall quality and precision engineering in my >M3 than an Acura that has its roots derived from the >McLaren Honda that Senna drove... Honda makes darn good engines. Darn good. Their tolerances are generally accepted as the best in the industry. They used their F1 program as a training ground for their young engineers, so as to instill the right frame of mind. (What's the redline on the GS-R again?) And Honda are coming baaaaaack... Again, no doubt about it. Honda makes terrific engines. I believe they hold the most F1 victories for in the least amount of time as an engine supplier. I have driven a GS-R and a Type-R (both a friend of mine's). I have seen a stock Type-R kill BMW's in autocrosses. However, I include in overall quality how a car feels as a total package. The Type-R has too much power steering and it just doesn't feel right. Does it handle great? Hell yeah. It's probably the only front driver I could possibly get. Is the engine flexible? I thought it was a bit rubber bandy and I really had to squeeze every drop out of it to really appreciate it. I'm sure my friend didn't though. One of my favorite cars is an NSX. 80 large too much to really beat the M3 in value. I have driven a lot of cars and there is just something there in the quality of a BMW that just puts it on the top of my list. That is the overall quality I find that I didn't find in the P-car. There is nothing I find wrong, be it engine response, pedal placement, steering feel, inertial butt dynometer in those awesome seats. I'm an M3 nut, I'm sorry. But that's why we're here:) Ed Tang __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com/

Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 09:42:32 PDT From: "Sean Hester" <seanh_race@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] a second chance? so... yesterday i got rid of my 95 M3. but... for those of you who were eagerly awaiting my unsubscription from the list, you'll be sad to hear i traded it for another 95 M3. it's been sitting on someone's garage for a bit, and only has 32,000 miles. (mine had 86,000) and it has all the options i wanted but didn't have. (sunroof, cruise control, computer (but no cup holders darnit!!!)) and more importantly it's in good condition and won't (knock on wood) cost me $15,000 this year to fix, and eat vanos gear for lunch. this car won't see the track. or get modified. now that i have a race car, (and will soon have a dedicated driver school car) all i need is a good street driver, and after a year of looking (and whining) i never found a better one then an M3. it's like using a time machine. my M3 (same color, and everything, especially since i'm trading some parts like seats) 3 years ago back when it had 30k miles and had never seen a track. woo hoo! P.S. after 5 years of hearing my competition stereo in an M3 i forgot how anemic the 95 M3 stereo is. i can't wait to get my stereo in the new car. (the appointment is thurdsay-friday (and it WILL take two days to install it)) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

It tells how slippery the car is but not the frontal area. Many motorcycles have high coefficients of drag but still achieve high top speeds for their power due to small frontal areas. In any event I don't think drag is much of a factor in 0-60 times. My local dealer didn't stock it and gave me lip about the M3 mount being perfectly fine. Very infrequently during hard acceleration in second gear at an autocross, I had the damn gear pop right out. It is quite disconcerting. TIA Ed Tang 95 Cosmos M3 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com/
