Has anyone had a problem with the changer spontaneously ejecting its cartridge? Mine does very frequently now and it seems to occur upon turning on the ignition switch. And a corallary - anyone got a good one for sale? Joe Dyer

#2. Help! Suspension Squeaks like mad - from Jeffrey Stowe

Date: Thu, 22 Jun 2000 23:11:16 -0700 From: Jeffrey Stowe <jstowe@cisco.com> Subject: Help! Suspension Squeaks like mad I just had my suspension modified on my 98 M3/4. H&R sports, Konis & UUC Swaybarbarians. The car feels great! I love the reduction in body roll and the stiffer ride. The change is just enough to help me forget that my "sports car" has four doors and two car seats in the back. Hers the problem. The car SQUEAKS like crazy. At low speeds it is unbearable. It seems to more from the front but that is also closer to my ears so it may be equal from front and rear. My uneducated guess is that the slow oscillation may be the Swaybar bushings and the big squeak on large bumps seems like it is from the springs. Can anyone shed some enlightenment on this ?? Did the shop that installed my components forget to put grease somewhere they were supposed to? Is this just the way it is with the stiffer components and urethane bushings? If parts were supposed to be greased should his requirement been common knowledge for an experienced reputable German performance shop? thanks for the help jeff 98 M3/4 with squeaks 98 Intrepid (wife now demanding 540)

Lowell, What do you think of the new Toyos? I guy had them at an autocrass last month, I'd never heard of them before. They didn't look particularly sticky, although this guys driving style could account for most of that. ;) They seemed to have a lot more tread depth and smaller tread blocks than other R-compounds I'm familiar with. Just curious of your impression. Eric 95 M3 95 325i

If I use the LTW wheels 8.5 in the front does it need any kind of spacers? Or is it just the after market wheels of varying offset that require a front spacer? I am currently looking into purchasing a set of the LTW wheels. Any good sources, besides the one previously mentioned? I think Alexandria (sp?) thanks, Rob 95M3

Now, if you're installing 8.5" wheels up front you're probably going to go to larger tires as well, and that's where you might have problems. Just few data points : This is all on 17X8.5 wheels with 41mm offset (either M contours, Forged 5 double spoke, or 10 double spoke wheels) My personal experience : G-Force R1 in 235/40-17 size rubs a little on the strut housing at the edge of tread. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with 5mm spacers or just ignored, cos rubbing isn't all that bad. Yoko A032R's in 235/40-17 size no rubbing Michelin Pilot Sports in 245/45-17 size - inner rim guard rubs in the strut housing. Just a little, you can still drive on them Friend's car : Pole Position-S02 in 245/45-17 size - inner rim guard rubs so bad that you can't drive unless installing 10mm spacers. Dmitri '99 M3/2 with 17X8.5" M contours with 235/40-17 all around all the time! #7. Schroth install - from Ed Tang

Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000 06:47:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Ed Tang <etangf1@yahoo.com> Subject: Schroth install Hi all, I installed the rear seat belts last night. I think about a gallon of sweat poured from me in the garage. The front seats can wait till tonight. First I'd like to thank all who have given me great info. Dmitri gave me advice on using a plastic spackle thingy to get the panels back in. Much easier;-) The install was straight forward. The passenger side had more crap around it and it was a little tricky to pull everything aside. I just used some masking tape to hold it all away from the work area. Well it looks very nice in the back seat. We'll get the rest on tonight. Ed Tang 95 Cosmos M3 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000 10:03:29 -0400 From: David Ngo <dngo@commvault.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Re: LTW Wheels One more data point - I swapped my 7.5" front rims for BMW 8.5" Double Spoke IIs with BFG G-force KD 245/40-17 tires all around on my stock suspensioned '98 4-door. Without spacers, the front tires *just* rubbed on the strut. I only needed about 2mm, but I had to go with 10mm spacers because they were the thinnest spacers that were hubcentric. 5mm H&R spacers left too little hub to properly center the wheels, resulting in a pretty bad shimmy. Granted, the BFGs are pretty wide for their rated size. You may not have problems with different tires. If I had Fikses with the 37.7mm offset, the BFGs would probably have fit without spacers. One more excuse to buy a set of Fikses. :-) Dave --- David Ngo dngo@commvault.com > -----Original Message----- > From: LoweSeaton@aol.com [mailto:LoweSeaton@aol.com] > Sent: Thursday, June 22, 2000 10:30 PM > To: E36M3 > Subject: [E36M3] Re: LTW Wheels > > <snip> > As for rubbing up front? #9. More 8.5" Wheels - from Wayne Miller

Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000 10:07:43 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: More 8.5" Wheels >> Friend's car : Pole Position-S02 in 245/45-17 size - inner rim guard rubs so bad that you can't drive unless installing 10mm spacers. I was about to send a message to the list and since I think that I am the friend mentioned, I am speaking up. I have the BMW 17x8.5 Forged Double Five Spoke wheels all around with SO2 Pole Position tires in 245/40/17 all around. They absolutely, positively didn't fit on the front without at least 5mm spacers. I tried mounting them without any spacers and put a piece of paper between the tire and the strut tower for testing and you couldn't pull the paper out without tearing it. This was when my car had the H&R/Bilsteins combination. I went with the 10mm (hub-centric) spacers because the 5mm spacers created a very bad vibration at any speed above about 40MPH. I have since gone with the Euro Springs/stock shocks and will try mounting the wheels tomorrow without the spacers to see if they fit. BTW, I bought my 3 extra (one for the spare, of course) 8.5" forged wheels from AAARims.com for about $300-$350 (they were different prices the 2 different times that I ordered them). They are in perfect condition and I am a satisfied customer. For those also wondering whether the 8.5" fits in the spare tire well and allows the carpet to lie flat, the answer is I don't know. I have a trailer hitch (see www.waynemiller.com/m3) and the brace for the hitch makes the tire sit up about a 1/4". The carpet misses being flat by about the same 1/4" so I THINK that it will fit properly without the hitch. -Wayne

The 8.5" wheel is a little too high to fit in the spare well, making the trunk floor rattle a little over bumps.
