#5. Help!!!! Buying speakers... - from Brent Williams

Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000 19:35:59 -0500 From: "Brent Williams" <brent@williamsconsultingltd.com> Subject: Help!!!! Buying speakers... I am about to purchase an amp and speakers. I have found the following: A10s 10" subs 2 for $196 P840 Amp $525 including the bass control and the extra cable to hook up channels 3-8. A6is 6" components w/tweeter $200. All are a/d/s components, and they appeared to be a good deal. They are new in the box, but it looks like they are very old, been sitting on a shelf for years covered in dust. If this looks like a good deal, let me know. The guy really wanted to get rid of them, and acted like he was giving me a good deal. There are only these things left, no more. Also, I had planned to purchase only the amp, and hold off on the speakers, if anyone wants them let me know. If they are a really great deal, let me know so I can buy them all. Thanks in advance to all you stereo gurus!! Brent Williams

If you are referring to the M3 tranny's then there is absolutely no difference. This of course means gears 1-5. Sixth gear is an overdrive - i.e., a ratio under 1.0 which effectively lowers your final drive. It is basically for economy. Gas is kind of expensive everywhere else but it looks like the U.S. is catching up. :-( > Like > what would be the difference going from first to second gear? No difference at all. Cheers, Jim E.

So, I'll add my info: First, define "normal" :-) OK, nevermind. I got ~24,000 miles out my first set of MXX3s, which was mostly highway miles, but did include a couple of track schools & autox. I currently have somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 miles on the Pilot Sports (Sean, I told you I'm easy on tires :-)). I say "neighborhood" because I've put a lot of miles on the track tires, so I don't know the actual mileage on these Pilots (car has 56,000+ miles on it). But they are strictly street tires. And since I have 8.5" wheels all around, I rotate them roughly every 10K, and about 10K ago had them dismounted and remounted on the other side (L<->R), due to the negative camber I run. The tires are just starting to wear on the wear bars. Gee, that was quite possibly the longest answer to "how many miles on your tires?" :-) Anyway, hope it helps. Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - tire budget has gone so well, I'm thinking of getting a race car :-)
