I love this list! Dave Hogg

"extra" torque, you may want to stick with the 5 speed. I think someone (Jason Leung?) had problems with it handling the extra (in his case excessive) torque. #4. First Inspection - Data point - from Dargan
Top
Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 11:48:46 -0400 From: "Dargan" <dargpa01@slic.com> Subject: First Inspection - Data point I just had the first inspection done on my '99 M3. The "inspection light" came on right around 9000 miles. (I don't use the car in the winter.) Approximately 2000 of the total were track miles; the rest almost exclusively highway. Dropped car off in the morning; picked it up in the afternoon. They explained what they had done. No mention was made of the stainless brake lines, UUC strut bar, X-brace, etc., or of "over-revs". I don't know if anything was put on their computer or not. The "First Service" item includes a filter insert and 7 quarts of 5W40 SYN. Two other services were "Campaigns". First was 99V063 which was the air bag call back. I had never heard of the other -- 99EA01. This included an O-ring; harness; crankshaft POS/RPM; 8-cable strap. They just said that there had been problems with the crank positioner wiring and this was a service update. The bill was, of course, zero. Somewhat noteworthy, I think, is that I had zero complaints or fixes to request. Oh, the "loaner" was a new Subaru "Outback Limited". Very nice 4-door sedan with leather, etc. Handled well and seemed quiet and tight. Engine somewhat anemic, but trans. would downshift with little prompting.

#5. WTB: Dinan carbon fiber intake with filter - from Mdriver13@aol.com

Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 12:10:37 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: WTB: Dinan carbon fiber intake with filter Hi All, Went to my dealer yesterday. They were having a Dinan performance parts show. I really like the looks of that Dinan carbon fiber air intake system. They told me I need to have the OBD II reprogramed if I install this. Is this true?? Will this intake give me a few additional hp??? Also the filter is tucked away under a "cutout". Not sure where the filter ends up. Those who know...will the filter get wet when it rains? So...does anyone have this part to sell? Some of you must have the Dinan intake laying around after installing the Jim C cold air intake (I know this is better, but can't afford the $$$ right now). #10. synthetic oil options - from John Hearn
Top
Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 12:33:40 -0500 From: "John Hearn" <john.e.hearn@vanderbilt.edu> Subject: synthetic oil options So what are the best synthetic oil options? I have used Red Line and Mobil 1 for a long time. The only problem I have with Red Line is the cost. What are other possibly cheaper options? Also, I was told that Mobil 1 changed their formula. If this is true, is Mobil 1 oil not a good anymore? Thanks, John Hearn
