You mis-read. It's ~30,000 miles on the street only; certainly less since some of the car mileage was on the track tires. I guess, like in math class, I should have shown my work: 56000 miles on the car -24000 miles when I changed tires (MXX3 -> Pilot Sports *plus* dedicated track tires - Toyo RA-1) ------------------ 32000 miles on this group of tires, shared among the street & track set Knowing that I usually put the track tires on the car at home, and that it's ~240 miles roundtrip to Thunderhill or Laguna Seca, I've got less than 30,000 miles on the street tires. How much less I have no idea. > i get about 20,000 out of a set of street tires with NO track time. Sounds normal, if you don't have the tire gnomes helping you :-) > and i get about 300-400 miles out of a set of track tires. This depends almost entirely on *which* tire you're running - well, OK, the gnomes help a bit :-) I'm running what appear to be the "wear like iron" Toyos; other tires last significantly less than those. Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 16:56:56 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: FS or trade: two 17x7.5 polished M double spoked wheels I have two, in great condition, polished M double spoked wheels (type 24). They are replicas, German made by MAS. Great for autox or track use, or for snow tire use. Only used one winter season. These are 17x7.5, with 42mm offset. Picture of wheels attached. Price: make me an offer, or will trade for Dinan carbon fiber cold air intake unit with filter (must be like new). Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA 1st AS - '97 2nd AS - '98 & '99

#4. Biltsteins + Stock Springs? - from Matt Henson
Top
Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 16:52:07 -0700 (PDT) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: Biltsteins + Stock Springs? Hey gang, A few months ago I 'upgraded' my '95 M3 to Biltsteins and H&R Sport springs. I've found the H&R's to be a little to low and their rear spring rate is too low so there is a ton of understeer. I was origionally thinking about trading for Eibach springs but I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better off just putting my stock springs back on. Has anyone used the stock/Biltstein setup? I would think that it would provide more control and precision than stock. How much higher than stock will the ride be? As far as performance goes, I've found the car to be a bit too unforgiving in AutoX for my skill. I think that the problem is a combination of turbo, suspension and G-force R1's. I only run 4psi boost during AutoX and I'm gonna ditch the BFG's after they die but that still leaves the springs.. Thanks for any advice that you can give.. -Matt __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! Mail - Free email you can access from anywhere! http://mail.yahoo.com/

#5. [E36M3] Nurburgring - from Tom A Shelton

Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 20:19:55 -0400 From: Tom A Shelton <TAShelton@compuserve.com> Subject: [E36M3] Nurburgring Just a quick post concerning the 'Ring. My brother Steve and I went (Carlos, you know him well). Great week. Lots of fun. We both had high hopes ... and our expectations were met, then exceeded. We all mostly stayed on the pavement (unlike some years, hahahaha). As I have seen numerous posts on the list from Herr Lord, I meant to actually say hello to him. But he was in Group 2 (I think) and we were in Group 3 - I forgot all about him until the banquet was finished (thrill of the track, total immersion, sensory overload, etc.). Did we have fun? Would I love to go back? Suffice it to say that I have rearranged my schedule and am off to Vienna and Amsterdam tomorrow - ending up in Frankfurt on Friday morning. Too bad the Ring is open for public lapping from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening. Gotta love it! PS - If Michael Lord is still at the 'Ring next weekend, I will stop to say hello!

Isnt BASF Gislavet an excellent paint system? Arent there others? Isnt it more the way it is applied and the care which goes into the prep and the application, and the polishing off, then which of the top 3 or 4 two stage systems is actually used? _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <15000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger

#7. 8.5" Wheel Fitment Part II - from Wayne Miller
Top
Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 22:33:36 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <M3@waynemiller.com> Subject: 8.5" Wheel Fitment Part II Yesterday, I had the chance to try my 8.5" forged double 5 spoke wheels with 245/40/17 SO2 PolePositions on my car without the 10mm spacers. They clear the strut tower overhang part (which the DID NOT with the Bilstein struts) but the "rim protector" just barely rubs up against the edge of the shock. The wheel has about 1/8" clearance. Since I am sending 2 of my wheels to the Wheel Collision Center because I was told that they can't balance them because the were out-of-round, I put my old 7.5" wheels back on but I plan on trying the car without the spacers when they come back. Does anyone have any opinions (not likely on this list) about the rim protector rubbing? -Wayne

It appears that my Pilot Sports have a similar "polishing" effect on the strut tube (I wouldn't go so far as to call what I experience "rubbing" :-)). Basically, if it's just keeping the strut tube clean, and you can't feel or hear any rubbing, you're OK. Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - now with fresh oil, clean ITG filter, lubricated door hinges, awaiting microfilter replacement (did someone say Inspection I? :-))

On another note, my original Dunlop SP8080e's only lasted me about 13,000 miles (maybe they had another 1,000 or so) with 1 track day and 1 autocross. -Wayne
