Does AA recommend any upgrades to your engine like gaskets, value retainers or pistons when you buy their turbo? Also, what did it cost for the labor and who did it ? Last important question - how do you like it? Thnaks Ted P.S. Good luck with fixing your problem. Message text written by E36M3 >I have an AA Stage II turbo strapped to my '95 M3 and have come to the conclusion that my head gasket has failed. I spent a lot of time tracking down what I thought was a cooling problem because I kept overheating. After coming up with nothing, I started to notice the dreaded milky color in my oil. Anyway, any other Stage II turbo people out there that have had this happen, or anyone ever have a head gasket fail on a normally aspirated car? My concerns are a warped head/block. The most expensive one if I remember correctly was $70. I replaced the large panel as well as the small one that fits up inside of the larger one. I also replaced the inner fender wells because they were starting to crack around the screws. I was missing a jack point puck, and also replaced one of the front corner abs plastic pieces underneath. All totaled I ended up spending around $175 to $200 on the parts, but if you just did the two pieces that are in the middle you'll fall under the $100 mark. Paul

I drove a BMWCCA school in June, and I'll be driving another one in August, so I wanted to put the heavier oil into the engine. Depending on where you live, 10W30 may be okay. I'm a little confused with reading the oil recommendations in the owner's manual, because if you ask for synthetic oil from your BMW dealer, the only synthetic oil they now sell is 5W30. So, what happened to following the recommendations in the owner's manual? It would be nice to get some "official" word from BMW on oil recommendations. Oh, BMW dealers DO sell another grade of synthetic oil. They now sell 10W60 oil for the new M5. The price? $15/qt. When I was in Germany, I checked out prices for synthetic oils. Would you believe....$15-$16 per liter (~29 DM/L)? I'll bet there aren't too many German owners who change their oil every 4800 km (3000 miles). -rb >Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 06:17:10 PDT >From: "Alex Aditya" <adityaax@hotmail.com> >Subject: Oil grade (Engine) > >Hi guys, > >I have a question. The service guy gave me a new piece (the big center one was the only thing broken on mine), which I think goes for a little over $100. He also recommended that I leave it off, as it would just break off again and having it off wouldn't negatively affect the car. He said it's mostly for high speed stability, which I took to mean Autobahn-type cruising. At any rate, I've had the car like that for a year with no ill effects. If you're interested in having *something* there, I think JT Designs makes a metal one, but I have no specifics on that one. -Chris > -------------------- 7 -------------------- > Date: Wed, 05 Jul 2000 23:37:04 PDT > From: "Sean Hester" <seanh_race@hotmail.com> > Subject: [E36M3] front underbody plastic > > i just finally figured out why my new M3 looks > different then the old one > when looking at the front grill. > > all that plastic underbody stuff (that let's you see > the ground throught he > grill if it's missing, but when it's there makes it > all dark in there) is > missing. > > can anyone tell me how important that stuff is? and > how much it'll cost me > to buy and get put back ok? > > thanks! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 11:03:28 -0400 From: "Luis Rueda" <Luis_Rueda@INTERLIANT.COM> Subject: Underbody panel, foglights & floormats... Sean, I wouldn't even bother to try to replace the stock piece (it will come off again!). I know of a guy that replaced it twice, it came off again & he finally gave up. Mine came off a few months back & I'm ready to order the JT aluminum replacement piece which is much stronger & better built than the stock piece IMHO (about $150 from www.jt-designs.com). On another note, one of my foglights cracked (another E36 M3 malady), my floormats are looking pretty ratty & time has come for me to order one of them snazzy (M3 logo) floormat set. What is the recommended place to order these online? (I have ordered part from Circle BMW before). Thanks in advance, Luis ------------------ 7 -------------------- Date: Wed, 05 Jul 2000 23:37:04 PDT From: "Sean Hester" <seanh_race@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] front underbody plastic i just finally figured out why my new M3 looks different then the old one when looking at the front grill. all that plastic underbody stuff (that let's you see the ground throught he grill if it's missing, but when it's there makes it all dark in there) is missing. can anyone tell me how important that stuff is? and how much it'll cost me to buy and get put back ok? thanks!
