Is there any aftermarket brake pads that you can recommend to me? Hopefully it will give me the same performance (oh and no squealing) as the stock ones but less (much less) brake dust. Thanx in advance, pin

#4. 10k miles without changing?! - from david tow

Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 13:47:49 PDT From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: 10k miles without changing?! Hi, all, My 95 M3 has gone over 10k miles since I changed the oil (BMW synthetic) and filter(OEM), and it's still on its last green light! 10k miles!? I am a little scared about the oil in the crankcase. Has anyone had the oil that old analyzed by a professional? I called the local dealer about this, and he said the synthetic oil and the filter can have the duration of over 15,000 miles. I am aware that this subject has been discussed before, but it would be still nice to hear some confirmation from you guys. Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 15:24:12 -0600 From: "John Payne" <jpayne@peakss.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Brake Pads x Brake Dust Having been through numerous brake pads, and $$$$$ procuring the "latest" in "no squeel, no dust, high performance " brake pads, my recommendation is stick with the stock pads or possibly something like a Pagid, which are pretty much the same as stock. I've tried the Porterfields street pads advertised as low dust low squeel...HA! What a joke! Even going into my garage you could hear them in the next county. And, they warped my rotors faster than stock pads. Brake dust just seems to be something that you have to put up with if you want semi-quiet brakes.......PS I use Mothers wheel cleaner, it works good. > -----Original Message----- > From: Suwipin Martono [mailto:martono@newton.Berkeley.EDU] > Sent: Thursday, July 06, 2000 2:57 PM > To: E36M3 > Subject: [E36M3] Brake Pads x Brake Dust > > > Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 13:47:09 -0700 (PDT) > From: Suwipin Martono <martono@newton.me.berkeley.edu> > Subject: Brake Pads x Brake Dust > > Hi all, > > I'm thinking of replacing my stock brake pads because of the brake dust > that keeps on accumulating on my wheels (even though I washed my car once > a week). > > Is there any aftermarket brake pads that you can recommend to me? > Hopefully it will give me the same performance (oh and no squealing) as > the stock ones but less (much less) brake dust. > > Thanx in advance, > pin > > > ************************************************************* > List Commands > UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. > ************************************************************* >

#8. RE: [E36M3] 10k miles without changing?! - from Robert Jackowitz

Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 17:29:16 -0400 From: Robert Jackowitz <RJackowitz@HARVPART.COM> Subject: RE: [E36M3] 10k miles without changing?! David: I think it comes down to personal preference more than anything. ~10k miles is generally what the service lights will dictate (and that's with mineral oil which came in ?all? M3's from '95 thru most of '97). Since you are running synthetic, I'm sure you're fine. Of course, more frequent oil and filter changes certainly can't hurt anything, other than your wallet. A DIY oil and filter change shouldn't run you more than ~$40 w/synthetic and shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes...so at 10k miles a year and 3,300 mile change intervals, that equates to an additional $80 per year. Cheap insurance in my book, although opinions on the subject will vary greatly. Then of course there's my Alfa which experiences "continuous oil changes". Oil goes in the top...comes out the bottom. I know there's always fresh oil in THAT motor. Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 17:54:14 EDT From: BL5194@aol.com Subject: Chicago..this weekend Howdy digesters, I'll be up in Chicago this weekend with the S/O. Any of you in the windy city know of anything fun going on this weekend. After we do the touristy stuff (she's never been to Chicago before) and do some shopping in the areas I like (lincoln park/wrigley field area) we will be open for suggestions. Also, if any of you want catalogues for free, just drop me a line and make plans with me to meet at my hotel and pick one up. I will be staying at the Hyatt Regency on Wacker Dr. I'll be there friday through sunday night. Also, I could bring up a few small parts if anyone needs anything and wants to save a few bucks on shipping. What can I say, I'm a good guy. Brian Leib 98 M3/4..lots of toys and getting more t.c.kline racing ProParts BTW, the catalogue offer stands for anyone in the columbus area or anyone who bumps into us in person. Other than that we charge $3.00 for the catalogue to cover shipping. as usual, I'll happily give away one with an order.
