I'm afraid that pads like many other things are compromises and response over a wide temperature range, fade resistance, no extreme rotor wear, and resistance to squealing are ranked ahead of less dusting in BMW [and my] order of priorities. There have been many comments on the pros and cons of various pads on this list as Sean knows as well as anyone, but for newbies you can look it up. For street driving and track use I'm pretty happy with stock pads on my 98 M3 and my 92 325i, but I liked Metal Masters on my 85 535i. They crumbled and felll out on my 325i. #7. FW: [3series] When did BMW first use the "Tiptronic like" trany in the M3? - from Peter Guagenti

I'm cross-posting this message in hopes we can bring another into our fold. Are there any folks out there who can e-mail this gentleman directly with their impressions or any information about the auto-trans on the M? Thanks. -p -----Original Message----- From: Ron Brooks [mailto:Ronald.Brooks@aig.com] Sent: Friday, July 07, 2000 12:00 AM To: BMW 3 Series Mailing List Subject: [3series] When did BMW first use the "Tiptronic like" trany in the M3? Hi all: I have just joined the list to get info on the M3. I was looking for a 90-92 Carrera with Tiptronic because my wife will not drive manual and I want her to be able to drive the car. Well, we just got some great/bad news: we are now expecting our third child this winter. Great on the one hand, but it leaves me searching for a possible 5 passenger replacement for my 944. The M3 is really my only other choice, but I do not know what year the "tiptronic like" trany was first used. My car would not be the primary cars for us, but at least it would fit the three kids in a pinch. From looking at prices on a few sites, it looks like a '97 is about the newest model I can afford. So, 2 questions: 1) When did BMW first use the "tiptronic like" trany and are there any sites with info on it? and 2) If it's newer than '97, does anyone have info or know of a site that discusses the 5 speed automatic transmission? In general I'd appreciate hearing from M3 owners with the speed autos as this would be the first auto trany car I have ever owned. Thanks, Ron Brooks (perhaps former Carrera hunter turned M3 hunter) --- You are currently subscribed to 3series as: peter@guagenti.com To unsubscribe send a blank email to leave-3series-38513X@rennlist.org
