No,really. i hope by now (it's been a 2 year crusade for me) that noone thinks you can use the same pads on the street as the track. when i'm talking about offering a reward for the "perfect" brake pad, (no noise, no dust, stops good) i'm talking about a street pad. i know just enough physics to know that there's no hope at all of a "no noise, no dust, stops good at a racetrack" brake pad at all. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

I have a close friend who is ready to buy, we just have to find one. Best if the car is in the Midwest or specifically about 4-5 hours from Detroit. So Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus would qualify. Thanks. Carlos Motor City Chapter (In Seattle right now) :-) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! #3. Race Announcement - from Bavarian Machine Specialties -- R.T. Buttweiler

Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 13:55:47 -0500 From: "Bavarian Machine Specialties -- R.T. Buttweiler" <rtb@BavarianMachine.com> Subject: Race Announcement Come Join The Fun! Tire-Rack / Lone Star Summer 2000 BMW Car Club of America Club Race Weekend, 22-23 July, Texas World Speedway College Station, Texas Featuring: * BMW race cars running two Sprint races and one Enduro race * Porsche race cars running two Sprint races, and * Two groups of High Speed School participants Adopting the nickname "The World's Fastest Speedway" in 1973 when Mario Andretti established the World Closed Course Land Speed Record of 214.158 mph qualifying for an Indy car race (a record which stood for twelve years), Texas World Speedway has played host to numerous professional and amateur drivers over its thirty-year history. It is one of six Super Speedways of two miles or greater in the U.S. and the only example west of the Mississippi river. This July 22-23 TWS's 2.9-mile, 15-turn "Grand Prix" course (the same one which once played host to Can Am greats like Mark Donohue, Jim Hall and Bruce McLaren) will feature over seventy BMWs and Porsches in the Tire-Rack / Lone Star Summer 2000 BMW Car Club of America Club Race Weekend. Established over 5-years ago, the Tire-Rack BMW CCA Club Race program features amateur and semi-pro drivers racing various types of BMWs, from factory racers (a 1965 Elva Mark VIII as an example) to safety-prepared street cars ranging from vintage 2002s to modern M3s. The Lone Star Summer 2000 race weekend will also feature a similar group of Porsche racers, ranging from classic 356s to current GT-R cars. Although racing will definitely be the focus, there will be other activities. Driver training is an integral part of the BMW Car Club of America, and to that end a High Speed Driving School will also be conducted over the weekend. There, folks with everyday street BMWs will be taken through a highly controlled school of performance driving through on-track sessions at speed coupled with intense classroom instruction. Saturday night is traditionally party-time at the track, and our Saturday will not fall short. We have worked with local caterers to provide a super beef and chicken Fajita dinner with chips, salsa, cold beer and soft drinks. During the party there will be drawing for the tons and tons of door prizes, awards given to BMW sprint-race winners, various raffles and general give-aways. The BMW Car Club of America is known for treating its workers right, and this weekend will be no exception. We have great give-aways in store, some nifty worker prizes, lunch-hour hot-laps provided by BMW and Porsche racers and of course the Saturday night party. #5. Looking for PDX mechanic + troubleshooting question - from Chris Sautter
Top
Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 12:46:28 -0700 From: Chris Sautter <chriss@fiori-portland.com> Subject: Looking for PDX mechanic + troubleshooting question I'm back on this list after a couple months break. I'm in the process of moving to Portland, OR, and need a mechanic in the area. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any list members in the PDX area? I normally work on my own car, but since I am between houses, I don't have a shop right now. My '95 has a clunk in the drivetrain that is getting worse. It is coming from the back, and is proportional to wheel speed. It only makes noise when coasting or braking (no load on drivetrain). What is the most likely culprit? Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 13:05:00 -0700 From: Ken Robb <kenrobb@willisallen.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Brake Pads and driving schools As I see it, I can use the same pad on the street and track, but I'm not racing. We do BMWCCA driving schools to teach driving techniques in a controlled environment. As everyone who has read the club policy knows, racing and timing laps is not allowed. The LA chapter even says anyone caught timing laps will be sent home. If I were in charge of school policy only street legal, insured cars on non-R compound tires would be allowed. We are now running race-specific schools for those who want to go that extra step. If you mean that you should have race specific pads for competition I certainly agree with that. When fractions of a second matter, we need all the help we can get. If I'm at a school, driving smoothly, hitting my turn-ins, apexes, and track-out points and you come up on me I'll be happy to let you by. I'm too lazy to be dragging a trailer full of tires and other track-specific equipment and spending what little free time I have between students working on the car. On the other hand, when I do need a jack or something I'm glad you guys brought the good stuff with you.(Thanks, Ralph and Brad). The purpose of the schools is somewhat negated when drivers get used to the response of their cars with their track tires, etc.and then don't get the same response on street tires in a road emergency. And yes boys will be boys(and so will the girls, right Donna) and when you close on me on the track I might pick up the pace a smidge to see if you're really that fast. :-) Ken Robb Sean Hester wrote: > Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 11:25:09 PDT > From: "Sean Hester" <seanh_race@hotmail.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Brake Pads x Brake Dust > > >Thanks for the input, but off-ramp braking is not what most of us mean by > >high speed > >braking. It's worth a look and a laugh. BTW, if any list-ers know where I can score one of those exhausts, I'll pay handsomely, say... a pack of gum . (Not like the $1,000.00 for brake pads mentioned a few posts earlier, but hey, ya get whut ya pay fer) Check it out... http://www5.airnet.ne.jp/custom/dpazoku/main.htm Mike '95 M3 non metal flake Dakar Yellow
