#2. kumhos... - from Kit Wetzler

Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 10:39:45 -0700 From: Kit Wetzler <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: kumhos... Hi Peter and the rest of you, This sounds like a long shot, but have you tried changing tires? I have had some serious quality control problems with the last few sets of Kumhos that I bought. One had a belt wound incorrectly and it would pull to one side... thought the alignment was off, but it was a defective tire. I got another one out of round, that, no matter who much balancing, still resulted in a bad wobble over 80 mph. I think that an incorrectly made sidewall could cause problems under heavy braking... the other thing that you could try is greasing your caliper's slider pins? Maybe it's binding at the extremes? Could it be your ABS computer acting up? Incorrectly pulsing one caliper? -Kit Sunnyvale, CA 97 M3/4 (BTW, I'm new to the list, just bought my M3 last Sunday.)

Date: Tue Jul 11 14:06:18 2000 From: SpeedU4EA@aol.com Subject: Re: more interesting stuff (maybe) Hello all, Here is something kinda new (kinda). I had the pleasure of installing my new UUC exhuast last weekend. I love the sound so far and the install was a blast once I figured out that there are two sets of screws in which you can mount the rear hangers from. At first I though I would need to go the Jim Bassett 12 pack method of install, because no way was the exhuast gonna fit. Then I moved the hanger and it centered beautifuly. Now the bad news. It seems I suffer from some form of brain disorder in which I stop thinking while watching Baseball. My mom has MS and needed some help changing a light bulb and stuff. I went over to help, started watching the near come back of the Giants vs. St Louis and must have slipped into a brain coma. She needed to go to the store, didn't want to back her car out of the garage (losing sight in her right eye and wears an eye patch). So do I drive her to the store like a good, caring, loving son? I love my mom more then that. I give her the keys to my 98 M3. Have at it mom. Watch the short shifter its tricky in first and oh, bring back some more beer. Unfortunatly, I left out the part about not taking it four wheeling. I get a call from my very upset mother informing me that my M3 is on two sides of a little concrete curb and she really wants it on one side so she can drive home (the beer was getting warm). I get there and the under carriage of the car is be! ing supported by said curb and the car will not budge. Didn't try to hard as I didn't want to compound the damage. I send poor mom home with the beer and my brother to find out if the Giants pulled off the come back and wait for a tow truck. Tow truck was nice enought ot put my car back on one same side of wall. Back to UUC exhaust. I no longer need it! The car now rumbles all on its own. I must have dented some piping off the engine becuase I have manufactered a very sexy bi-plane sound from my car. (If you guys at UUC want the rights to the sound it will cost you). I don't know the extent of the other damage yet. It goes up on the lift today. Looks like I bent a frame stiffiner against the trainy. Hard to tell. Anyway, will let you know in much shorter format what else I may have broken in case you want to off road your M3 too. P.S. Mom is ok and at the eye doctor today. (no kidding) Next time I go the less caring route and actually drive her where she needs to go. Much safer for the rest of the Bay area too :)

Date: Tue Jul 11 14:18:19 2000 From: DrDan976@aol.com Subject: Re: E46 sunroof switch Ive already done it! As far as I know, this will only work with the M3s or any E36 that does NOT have the one touch open feature. I purchased an Auto-loc 1 touch module for power windows from Mesa Performance (www.mesaperformance.com shameless plug) for $60. I then dismantled the IC board from the cheap and bulky plastic box it was encased in. After some rearranging of wires in the sunroof panel, I was able to squeeze the IC board in the headliner, left of the switch and to the right of the sun visor. It was a really, really tight fit. The wiring was straight forward, however the instructions had 2 wires cross (ie. Open was actually closing the sunroof), but by switching the two wires, everything worked. Once I stuffed everything back inside, it worked perfectly One touch open and close. The one thing I must mention is that the closing feature does not have the same protection as the window. If an object obstructs the path of the sunroof, the panel will stop, but will not reverse a couple inches like the window. I hope this helps. Dan Wang

Looking closer at the UUC web site, there may be a mis-print(?). In the paragraph above the one I cited, it mentions the recommended initial settings: "...it is recommended that the front be set to FULL STIFF (which is the holes furthest from the ends) and the rear to FULL SOFT (holes closest to the ends)." So, apparently ONE of these statements is in error since they contradict one another in terms of hole settings/placement (at least to me - maybe *I'm* missing something?). All I know is I started with the recommended settings, experience HUGE amounts of understeer, moved the fronts bars to the middle position (SOFTENING the front bar), and still at times experience some understeer. So my next tuning adjustment is to make the rear bar STIFFER by moving ONE side to the other hole (and making appropriate adjustments to the adjustable end links), and see how it feels in an upcoming autox & track sessions. If I need to, I still have another adjustment in the rear to make - that whole "working in stages" thing :-) (Regardless, to decrease understeer, one can either soften the front bar or stiffen the rear bar - whichever holes those are :-)). Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4

I just wanted to see if I can kill two birds with one stone by waiting for the Injector to come out. That way I may not have to send mine in for a reprogram but order the injector and do it myself. Or maybe only have to send it in ONE more time when I order the injector to reprogram it back to stock instead of sending it in now for the intake software and then resending it in when the injector come out to reprogram back to stock or something in that nature. -John --- Jim Conforti <lndshrk@xmission.com> wrote: > > > John wrote: > > > > Date: Tue, 11 Jul 2000 12:04:23 -0700 (PDT) > > From: John <m3john@yahoo.com> > > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Shark Injector for Early > Adopters > > > > No you're not the only one Ned.
