Not sure about the Siemens-equipped OBDII cars, but of the OBDI E36's, only 92 (non-VaNoS) 325's used the hot wire setup. All other 325's/M3's use the hot film. -Matt ___________________________ -----Original Message----- From: Paul Elliott [mailto:pelliott@rcn.com] Sent: Friday, July 14, 2000 7:24 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Re: HFM question Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 19:16:08 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: Re: HFM question Mill, >Nope! HFM means Heat Film Meter. It's a heated wire, which gets cooled down from the intake air flow. If the temperature of the wire changes, the electrical resistance of that wire changes also . So, basically you can measure the amount of air that flows thru the HFM by detecting the electrical resistance of that wire. < Then why isnt a HWM for Hot Wire Meter? That is, arent 2 different but similar methods used: one uses the hot wire you refer to, but the other uses a small piece of film. Do we know for sure that our E36s use the wire instead of the film method? _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <20000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. *************************************************************

#2. BMWCCA Raffle!!!! - from Chester Wong

Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 20:56:09 -0700 (PDT) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: BMWCCA Raffle!!!! So guess what I get in the mail today. In this year's Oktoberfest, they will be auctioning off a 2001 E46 M3. Pretty cool. I forgot what were the chances for last years M5, but in this year's, the stakes are 1 in 2500. Not bad... =) Also, I received my copy of Autoweek today and saw a picture of the prototype E46 323ti =). They also showed that Mercedes and Porsche are racing to get ceramic rotors onto production vehicles. I'm already salivating at the thought of a Porsche big brake kit with ceramic rotors (hopefully I don't have to sell a kidney to get them)....I believe you'd be saving something like 10 lbs of spring weight per wheel, no? ...not to mention no warping.. I wonder if they'll squeal like a stuck pig. Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! I think I even remember hearing of a fellow lister saying that he/she got accepted and will be mailing back the forms and stuff. I haven't seen anything in the mail to this date about the driver school. Have any of you? Thanks, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! No matter how many times you've seen it (even ONLY from TV/pictures), formula 1 cars are always impressive. Specially the Ferrari, MB-McLaren, and the beloved BMW-Williams (when are they going to win??). So you went to Monaco for the Grand Prix?? Must be one hell of a holiday. *droool* Michael Ting --------------------

Is there a difference to the Heat Film Meter (maybe that's just 2 names for the same thing). I read about the heated wire thing in a German repair manual for the E36 320/325 and I'm almost sure that the E36-US-M3 uses the same sort of air flow measuring sensor. > Do we know for sure that our E36s use the >wire instead of the film method? If you take a look at your "HFM" you can see that wire inside. (At least it's like that with euro 1993 325 and euro M3 3.0). mill

Major difference is the price, Eibachs are $355 versus $485 for the UUC bars. So what do you get for $130? Any had both of these? usual disclaimer: I'm not starting a flame war between Eibach and UUC bars. Several weeks ago there was a post about a position at Newman-Hass (Micheal Andretti & Christian Fitapaldi) racing posted on this board and I thought what the hell and sent in a resume. This week I was offered and accpeted a position there! I've learned a lot about my M3 (yes there is M3 content in this message) on this list but I never thought it would help me land the perfect job! Just wanted to say thank you! Andy K.

No tickets are transferrable! That really sucks, cause BMW CCA fails to realize that the greater the no. of tickets, the more cars it can give away. Hehehe.... Buying 2500 tickets at $25 apiece comes out to $62 and some change, which may very well be the total price of the new M3, with tax, tags, and all options!!! >>> "Michael Ting" <lupin@purdue.edu> 07/15/00 01:33AM >>> Date: Sat, 15 Jul 2000 00:14:13 -0500 From: "Michael Ting" <lupin@purdue.edu> Subject: Re: [E36M3] BMWCCA Raffle!!!!
