In road racing, the 2nd gen CRX's that dominate ITA run 400lb springs in front with 600lb springs in the rear. Also, they like to run a thick rear sway bar with a stock front bar (or no front bar at all) to further combat understeer. I wouldn't understand why this would be different with a RWD car. -RJ-

YCMV :-) FWIW, the water pump had started to leak at the front bearings (~57,000+ miles), and they replaced the thermostat as a preventative measure while everything was accessable (yes, I "OK'd" the work up front :-)) Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - no track events this weekend, hauling Nikolas, Kim, and Godmother Kathy

#6. Re: [E36M3] BMW CD changer - from Ron Buchalski

Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 04:03:48 GMT From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] BMW CD changer My '95 M3 has the Pioneer Radio/CD Changer combo, and it works well. I've never had a problem with it's operation. I DO prefer the Pioneer radio in my '93 525iT which has the Weather Band rather than a useless Mute button. If I'm going to reach over to the radio, I can just as easily turn the volume control as I can press a Mute button, so why is it needed? duh... On a related note (to the attached), the CD changer in my M3 is installed on the bottom of the rear parcel shelf, rather than in the right side of the trunk (above the battery area). As a result, it really reduces the usable opening size for the trunk. Are there any special brackets required to mount the CD changer on the right side versus the underside of the parcel shelf? I'd like to move the CD changer. Does anyone else with a '95 model have their factory CD changer installed underneath the parcel shelf, and has anyone moved it to the location above the battery? If so, could you drop me a note and let me know what's involved in moving it? For example, in setting up the rear bar you can have the right link in the hole closest to the end and the left link in the hole furthest from the end. This will give you an additional adjustment. Can anyone else confirm this...if not I will pull out the book and try to find it. My latest setting that I have found to be completely neutral are as follows: 97 M3 255-40 17 AO32R's front and rear at 41psi front 39 psi rear (hot) UUC rear bar at full stiff UUC front bar in the middle on both links Biltstein Adjustable shocks set slightly stiff than stock Stock springs UUC strut brace X-brace 1/4 to 1/2 tank fuel no spare tire I have run this setup in the rain (this past weekend) and the car was very predictable and stable. With very easy throttle oversteer. I would not suggest this setup for the street...it could get a little hairy (oversteer) in a panic maneuver if you are not ready for it. I usually set the car up with some understeer for the street and set the rear bar to middle setting (see above) and it gives a slightly smoother ride with some understeer. Brent, > I think BMWUSA is getting a nasty letter from my attorney on this one< I dont know, but what has the dealer done for you to take legal action? Sounds like they made a mistake during your repair, and compounded the problem by making another mistake by telling you to show up without an appointment... But, theyre NOT stating that they wont rectify the problem in a reasonable amount of time, and its NOT as though youre without a way to get to work or something...At worst, its slightly inconvenient, and its trying your patience...But, seriously, there ARE worse problems that you probably deal with every day...So, you have to live without sounds for a short period of time! Hell, now your better off, and can listen to that beautiful M3 music for a while. PIA, sure, but actionable....I doubt it! _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <20000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger
