#1. Software Upgrade and Cold Air Intake - from Stan Shaw III
Top
Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 13:27:54 -0400 From: "Stan Shaw III" <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: Software Upgrade and Cold Air Intake I installed the software upgrade with the Shark Injector, and the Cold Air Intake a few days ago. The car seemed fine, but I did have one time when the engine check light stayed on, until I shut off and restarted the motor. Then I put the car up on jack stands for a couple of days to install the JTD brake cooling kit. When I started the car today the "engine check" light stayed on and stays on, the car seems way down on power. The car had a Inspection II just a few weeks ago and the thermostat replaced before I used the Shark Injector and installed the Cold Air Intake. Any helpful hints on what could be causing the problem? Should I try downgrading the Shark Injector? I would appreciate any quick assistance I can get, I am scheduled for a D.E. day at NHIS next week! I've been through fitment discussions on my E28 M5 with them too. I understand their point. If there's even a chance that it won't fit - and there is in this case - they advise against a certain tire or size since they do not accept returns of tires that have been mounted. Anyone who is unsure of their information should heed TR's advice. In general, they DO know what they're talking about won't steer you wrong. Like buying aftermarket parts (doh!), you need to know what you're doing. ....ned. >Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 06:10:14 -0700 (PDT) >From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> >Subject: Re: [E36M3] - AutoX Tires & Wheels > >Well this is good news. #3. Rear trailing arm bushings - from Eric.C.Dotson@travelers.com

Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 14:41:26 -0400 From: Eric.C.Dotson@travelers.com Subject: Rear trailing arm bushings After my recent response to Piete Van Dien's post about oversteering M3's, a listmember suggested I check my trailing arm bushings. I do check them fairly regularly and know it wouldn't hurt me to replace them. I was kinda putting it off until I was surfin' around the Ultimate Garage the other day and realized the bushings are only about $18 each. For some reason I thought they were a lot more. Here's my question: I have a 95 M3. I understand the bushings for the 96-99 cars are different because they were redesigned and made more durable. The price is the same for either. Is there any reason I do NOT want to use the 96-99 style bushings? Fitment problems? Geometry changes? TIA Eric 95 M3 95 325i

However, *holding* the driver's door key in the locked position should first roll up the windows and then close the sunroof. -John '96 318is -- john.firestone@nord-com.net

#5. Re: [E36M3] Coolant Level - from LHassig@aol.com

Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 15:49:19 EDT From: LHassig@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Coolant Level Jim, This happened to me recently. I refilled the reservoir and within one day's driving (about 70 miles), the light had come on again. If the same thing happens to you after you refill the reservoir, look for a blue-green crust on the inboard side of the engine-air intake tube behind the radiator. It's formed when coolant condenses on the cool air intake. The coolant came from the water pump, which had a leak. Not bad enough to drip onto the pavement overnight, but plenty bad to expel coolant when the engine was running. I had the pump replaced under my extended warranty. At the same time I paid for a new thermostat and a metal housing to replace the original plastic one. Don't know for sure if this is your problem, but have a look. It might be. Cheers, Lee

#6. Rattle, rattle!!! - from david tow

Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 14:57:48 PDT From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: Rattle, rattle!!! Dear all, The muted rattle and squeak inside my 95 M3 drove me nuts, so I sprayed rubber dressing on all the plastic and rubber surfaces (especially the gaps between them). You know what? It worked. It felt like a brand new car again - well, for about two weeks. I've searched the old archive files trying to find someone's solution to this problem without any luck. Folks, does anyone of you have used a product that worked better than rubber dressing, something you could spray on to the gaps to quiet the rattle and lasts? I recall someone mentioned about rubbing talcum powder between interfering leather surfaces, but nothing about plastic. I don't seem to have any rattle problem with the windows, the glove compartment or the leather seats though. The rattle is obviously from the dashboard and the center console. My impression of The Tire Rack is that they are very conservative when advising what will or won't fit. They guarantee that what they say will fit, will, so they don't take any chances on suggesting something that might not. If they say it will fit, it almost certainly will, but if they say it won't, it might. Say what? Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 22:13:19 -0500 From: Andy Korczynski <Andy@casskor.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] - AutoX Tires & Wheels So what's best? Going with a 245/45 or a 235/40 or a 245/40? It seems that the 245/45 may mess with traction control, speedo, and odometer because its a bit larger in diameter. I'm starting to think the best solution is to just get 17 X 8s or 8.5s and put Hoosier 245/40's on them? What the heck is another $40 a tire? This is a typical problem when it comes to this damn car. I start out wanting to spend $1500 on auto-x/track tires and wheels and I'll end up spending $3000.
