Recently, between 1K to 3K RPM's I noticed a low "buzzing"...it feels/sounds like a motor or transmission mount. Any thoughts? The car is a 95' M3 w/ 74,000 miles and a RMS Stage I Supercharger (Supercharger installed @ 55,000 miles). I thought the extra torque would cause premature motor/tranny mount failure?? Should I replace these anyway since the tranny is coming out ? TIA Jeff

Apparently, he's actually enjoying himself away from this list. :-o Phil 99 Estoril M3/2, x, ss, shark 96 Suburban -----Original Message----- From: Michael Lord [mailto:michaellord@uswest.net] Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2000 11:57 PM To: Chen, Philip Subject: Re: Nurgburing Hi Phillip, Good to hear from you. I have been unsubscribed from the list for a few months now. The racing season has really consumed a great deal of my time and energy so something had to go. I do miss everyone though. The racing season is going well. I am currently running 3rd in ITS and 1st in D Production with ICSCC. This has not come without some thrills and spills. Three weeks ago at Mission Raceway in BC I had two (!?!) braided SS brake lines blow completely out of their fittings at once while braking for turn 5. Needless to say, I was unable to make the turn. After getting airborne over some curbing at around 90mph and plowing through a Datsun 240Z I took a tour of the Canadian countryside that I hadn't quite planned on. After dodging trailers, people, 50 gal barrels and the like I found a small piece of pavement upon which I could spin the car and there-by bring it to a halt just before a stand of trees that probably would have stopped most of me before I went into the river on the other side. It sort of redefined the concept of "heads up" driving for me. Mission is a *very* tight course and very hard on brakes. As such, my rotors were red hot and I now had two ruptured lines spewing brake fluid onto them. There was lots of smoke and a bit of fire but it didn't do too much damage, as the turn workers were on the job. We couldn't really figure out what would cause such a catastrophic failure so I have not only replaced the brake lines (Goodridge) but the entire ABS system as well. Back to Mission tomorrow. It's supposed to rain. Ask me if I care! Onward! Regarding the Nurburgring. Go to: http://www.nuerburgring.de/eng/frame_00.htm I highly recommend a visit and a few laps. Be sure to check the schedule and see if it will be open on the day you plan to visit. Another word of warning. There are some places where you can get into a great deal of trouble. The track has over 170 turns. You'll never learn it in a day or even several days. My advice? Take it easy this time out and then be sure to sign on for the BMW school next year. Brian Horne and I went this year and once again, we had a blast! I finally feel like I am driving it pretty well. My most excellent girlfriend, Miki Haraguchi, has been keeping me up to date as to the goings on in E36M3 list land, but it's not quite the same as being there. If it seems appropriate, and you won't get into trouble with the List Mistress for the lack of M3 related stuff, post this to the list as a way of saying hi from me. Cheers! I've always been curious if there is enough room with stock seats to put in the Dan Snyder/Kline designed 'side impact bars' as shown here: What do you think? Think this (or even a single bar...not the 'tuning fork') would fit in there Jim? http://www.bmwmpower.com/Gallery/images/rollbar8.jpg When Dan sent me his pics (I later forwarded to Suzy) he was telling me that his cage was a one of a kind deal in that 1) he wanted the side bars lower than normal and out of the way of his elbow 2) he wanted them to be removable It would seem to me if you went low enough, you could avoid the side bolsters and fit it in there, but with a lot of restrictions on the seat adjustments?? I think your choice of gray looks better than most I've seen. Most get the gray to match the seats...I like the more charcoal gray color than the dove gray color. If on the other hand you want a hard hat, then you nwant a helmet. :-) Chester Wong wrote: > Date: Thu, 27 Jul 2000 18:26:50 -0700 (PDT) > From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Question about helmuts (Was: Re: [uuc] Bell Helmet GP) > > OUCH!!!! Kalman" <aek@netcom.com> Subject: Sacrilege -- the Straight-Six is alive and well Don't know if anyone noticed, but Chevy won this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with a truck powered by their all-new, all-aluminum, twin-cam STRAIGHT SIX truck engine: 5.0L, 625hp @ 7500rpm, Normally aspirated. Maybe the I6 still has some life left in it after all, ... I could go for one of those in my LWT -- maybe I'd have to lengthen the nose a foot, though ...:-) ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@netcom.com

#9. Hot Front Brake - from LHassig@aol.com
Top
Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 16:42:56 EDT From: LHassig@aol.com Subject: Hot Front Brake Folks, I was driving along this morning when I noticed the odor of something extremely hot. My son saw wisps of white or grey smoke from left front wheel area. As it happened, I had just passed my local BMW store, so I did a Uy and had them look at the car. As I slowed for the turn, the steering wheel oscillated slowly. A cursory exam revealed nothing amiss except that the left front wheel/brake was very hot compared to the right one. So I proceeded with my errands, planning to return to the dealership if things heated up again. They didn''t. By and by, the left brake cooled to about the temperature of the right brake. Perhaps the caliper stuck in the clamped position then came unstuck all by itself a little later. If so, what are possible causes? The only one I can think of is that the guide bolts need lubricating with anti-seize compound. Anybody got any ideas of what might have caused this behavior? Thanks, Lee '95 M3
