Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2000 10:26:51 -0700 From: Chad Armstrong <caarmstrong@epicor.com> Subject: Euro Spec M3? Hey Group, I have an acquaintance who recently bought an 95 M3 and the previous owner told him that it is a euro spec car from Japan. What I am looking for is information to help me take a quick look at the car and tell him if he has been scammed or not. Basically is there are difference in the VIN code logic? I know about the individual intake throttle bodies etc but all that stuff can be bought and put onto an US spec car. Any off you International folks on the list that could help me out with how your cars VIN numbers are specified would be great. Because, I can compare that to mine. Thanks In Advance, Chad Armstrong 99 M3

Does anyone know where can I mail order the Peake Research code reader tool? My check engine light popped on today and I want to try to figure it out before the (seemingly inevitable) trip to the dealer... -p Peter, I bought my R5-FCX directly from Peake at <www.peakeresearch.com>. This allowed me to purchase the one year extended warranty on the tool for an additional $15. The normal warranty is ninety days if I recall correctly. Though I have only used the tool for resetting the oil and service lights, I have been very pleased with its performance. Good luck. Chris G. www.bmwmseries.com

It is also difficult to install the individual throttle bodies on a US spec car. It cannot be done as the US head does not accept the Euro parts and the Euro head cannot be put on the US block. So to trick somebody in this manor they would have to have done a motor transplant. Peter, The other characteristic you may like about the A032Rs for autoX is that their turn-in is very crisp. Sean is right in that they are not the stickiest tires in the world, but way better than any street tire. I run A032Rs because of price, convenience, predictability, and "R-compound friendliness" (i.e., they give you lots of warning at the limit). I get about 3-4 track days out of a set. Maybe 5 if they've been properly heat-cycled. I generally don't drive on them to and from the track. I save them for event use only, but that's just my personal preference. Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2000 16:15:39 EDT From: Milotaks1@aol.com Subject: Battery Replacement My battery just kicked the bucket yesterday. I called up BMW parts and they have it for about 120. I remeber reading a while ago on a different digest that the factory battery might not be the way to go. There are better, lighter ones. Any suggestions? Thanks Milo 95 M3

#10. AO32R/suspension squeak - from Ed Tang

Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2000 14:43:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Ed Tang <etangf1@yahoo.com> Subject: AO32R/suspension squeak I like to have my tires on to get to the track so I really like the A032R's. And if I'm really lazy after I get back, I don't have to worry about driving around in them, especially if it rains. They aren't as good as the others but are better than street tires and relatively inexpensive as far as race tires go. They last a bit longer. I've been to the track twice and four autocrosses=half tread left. An update on the suspension squeak--it's a cracked sway bar link. Both sides will be replaced. The water pump was also leaking. They took it apart and it had the plastic impeller. Oh well...they'll be covered under warranty...at least that's what they said. I got a copy of the warranty book from the finance guy and they are coverable items. The service guy said it depends on the warranty people. I'll be pretty p.o.'d if it isn't covered.
