How did the factory set up the car?...oversteer, understeer, swaybars, dampers, steering, etc.,etc.,etc.?? All of these variables contribute to the end result. I bet that any one of those cars could be set up to go faster through the slalom if minor mods (such as the ones listed above) were made. I love the comparos that these mags make. Generally speaking, I would wager to say that the lighter the car, the more nimble it would be. However, there are many variables to consider before accepting a magazines "report" as being representative of a car's true potential. mark kelly >-------------------- 2 -------------------- >Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2000 22:37:05 -0500 >From: "Michael Ting" <lupin@purdue.edu> >Subject: E46 - agile?? > >I tried driving a 328 sport, and although I didn't drive the car near the >limit, my '95 M3 still feels more agile. Somewhere (which I can't find right now) I read that the tranny filler plug is color coded to indicate the type of fluid to use. The color of my tranny plug matched what the guide said would indicate ATF. -rb >Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2000 11:35:20 -0700 >From: "Mount, Mike" <JMMn@pge.com> >Subject: '95 M3 Tranny fluid?? > > > Any fellow bimwads have the specs for tranny fluid on the '95 M3 right on >top of their head? It cannot be done as the US head does not accept the Euro parts and >the Euro head cannot be put on the US block. So to trick somebody in this >manor they would have to have done a motor transplant. or count on people not knowing. i'll bet 95% of M3 owners would not know what "individual throttle bodies" looked like. or even know that the euro M3 had them. Plus also some other things perhaps (I know nothing about the automobile laws in Europe or Japan): Different headlamps that may be height adjustable. Opening rear windows. Instruments calibrated in KPH instead of MPH Perhaps a 6 speed transmission Different outside mirror. Euro floating rotors maybe. Rear fog lamp Rear sunscreen/sunshade (saw one on a 1994 Canadian M3 which was identical to the Euro M3 from 1994) Radio may be set to different intervals, maybe even have SW, MW, LW etc. Fuel gauge in liters As noted already, oil press. gauge where US has MPG. A/C controls calibrated in C instead of F (but I bet this is a selectable option if you know how to get into the computer of the OBC/radio) Perhaps the seats aren't leather. Leather seems to be a US phenomenon; but, non-leather seats in the US M3 was a "no-cost" option Is there such a thing as a Japanese language OBC? Probably not since the linear red LCDs won't make the characters very well. Slightly stiffer and lower springs (the US M3s came with the Euro 4 door springs. The Euro 2 door M3s had lower and stiffer springs) Well, that's all I can brainstorm for now. But, I don't know if all of the above is correct. Some of it is common sense. The others are market specific. The VIN may probably tell you for which market the car was made. And, right hand drive. Marc Edwards 1995 M3 LTW I know this car was made for the US

(except old R1s that you can't get > anymore) IMO, the 225/45 Kumho is a near-perfect fit on the 7.5" rim. Possibly a _tad_ too wide but the extra grip probably more than makes up for any pinch. And this tire is just great for AutoX. Not quite as good as the Hoosier but close, and a much better price. Just my .02. -Matt __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The 8th digit from the front of the VIN should be the engine type. I may be wrong on this though..... I guess another thing is, isn't there a VIN # (or part of it) stamped on the engine? How about some others: Not to also mention programmable interior venting using the OBC (or was that 5 series?). Also, programmable memo function instead of just hourly. The so called "city lights" that are in Europe, low intensity lamps for driving in the city. Capability to light the "side markers" of the car on the side of the car in the street when parking at night to avoid someone bashing that side of your car. I guess it goes on and on...
