I am pretty sure these were not specific to Europe or the Far East. The programmable wiper interval is part of the headlight washer system which, had you pestered BMW NA for long enough, you could have even ordered on a U.S. E36 3er. According to 3er Betriebsanleitung VIII/95, the memo function is only hourly, however, you can set the minute it goes off should that be different than 15 s before the hour. As the U.S. E36 OBC I bought has the same part number in Europe (at almost half the price) and US/GB written on it, I suspect the same works in the U.S. > The so called "city lights" that are in Europe, low intensity lamps > for driving in the city. So called indeed. It is illegal to use the standing lights this way, if not suicidal. The person who doesn't see you and can't yield will be coming from your left. You're really not missing this feature. Trust me. :) > Capability to light the "side markers" of the car on the side of the > car in the street when parking at night to avoid someone bashing that side > of your car. For example: - reflectors in the corner light assemblies, - knee protection panels, - (until recently) third brake lights and OBD-XX, - less expensive headlights, - much less expensive options, e.g., leather, air conditioning, and automatic transmissions, - multi-year warranties, and so on. -John -- john.firestone@nord-com.net

The default display, degrees C or F, is set by the central code programmed into the A/C (IHKA) control unit, the central code being set by the car's options and market. If you want the other units, you can select them, using the DIS tester or MoDiC. > Perhaps the seats aren't leather. Leather seems to be a US phenomenon; but, > non-leather seats in the US M3 was a "no-cost" option Most (all?) of the European M3's I have seen had leather seats, however, cloth is easily the most popular choice on other models. -John '96 318is -- john.firestone@nord-com.net

And pestering them for the headlamp washers was not the hard part for me. :-) The other stuff was the pain. See: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/interior/e36_euro_wiper_control_module.html As always, Ron Stygar documents EVERYTHING. :-) Cheers, Jim E. Bring plenty of fluids to stay hydrated at the track. As of right now, I should be there. The Sandlapper folks are great. Its going to be a busy October between O'fest, my first club race, and this driving school. > Helmet question: Where can I rent one for the weekend? Should have spent more time looking for an m3 without a sunroof. Check out OG Racing. Great folks and definitely the best place to rent a helmet from! www.ogracing.com > Brake question: Supposedly this track is very tough on brakes. If you don't have but 3K miles on the rotors, you probably won't need any, although having them with you wouldn't be a bad idea. You'll definitely want to bring an extra set of pads. The track isn't too bad on brakes in my opinion, you can learn to get around the track using very little brakes. Being your first school, you probably won't be too hard on the brakes anyway. Bring an extra set of stock pads and you should be in great shape. > Seatbelt question: I don't need a 5 point harness do I? Nah...plus that will get you into the debate over whether 5 points are safe without a rollbar. Some instructors won't use 5 points without a rolllbar, some will. Stick with stock belts until you know whether you are addicted to on-track driving or not. > Anyonw else going from the list? It looks to be in the middle of nowhere, > wondering about available hotels. Like I said, I should be there Friday-Sunday, assuming my month isn't too busy. Check with the recommended hotels in your information packet for the school, there is usually a hotel that will give you a deal for coming down with the BMW CCA. If you can't find the information or don't have the packet yet, contact Ronn Hale <e21323i@usa.net> or Bob Shields <basbob@cetlink.net>, tell them I sent ya. > Thanks > Jonathan Evans > Red 95 M3 > Raleigh, NC Hope to see ya down there. If I'm there, I'll be paddocked with my dad's white LTW. I'll have my new (to me) black 325is race car. Have a good one. -Bryan Watts 95 M3 92 325is - K-Prepared/ITS

Not very similar. You'll run in the Beginner's group at the Driver's school. Since it's your first time, they'll make sure you take it easy. You drive at your own pace. They won't make you push beyond what you feel comfortable with. If your instructor makes you uncomfortable, ask for a different instructor. You paid for the school, so you're in control to get what you want out of it. >Helmet question: Where can I rent one for the weekend? Should have spent more time looking for an m3 without a sunroof. Check and see if your chapter allows M (motorcycle) helmets. They are much cheaper (~$100 versus ~$200-300). Since this is your first school, you may want to borrow an SA or M helmet from a friend. Just make sure that it fits properly. If you're going to be a regular school participant, spend the money and buy a proper fitting SA helmet. >Brake question: Supposedly this track is very tough on brakes. Anyone >have some stock front rotors in decent shape they want to sell me? rotors >and pads were changed about 3k miles ago, but it would be nice to have a >spare set. A track is only hard on your brakes if you drive hard on the track. For your first driver's school, and your first real drive in the M3, don't worry about burning up the stock brakes. You won't. >Seatbelt question: I don't need a 5 point harness do I? No, the standard belts are fine. Just make sure to tighten it properly. There are two possible ways: 1) Prior to buckling the belt, adjust it so that the the slack is out of the belt and the "floating" buckle is close to the mating (fixed) buckle. Twist the belt at the floating buckle end a few times to keep it from slipping on the belt prior to fastening it, and to take up a little more slack. Buckle up (it should be snug). 2) Push your seat a little further back than you have it set. Buckle your seatbelt. Quickly pull the belt from it's retractor so that it locks. Hold tension on the belt to keep it locked, and push your seat forward so that it's tight across your body, and remains locked. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

The display is still there, but there is no air blowing. Seems like every thing except the fan is working. Could it be a loose connection? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks. -Yella 99 M3/15k __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kick off your party with Yahoo! Invites. http://invites.yahoo.com/

(you 96 and newer people have a shorter one, i'm jealous) and with the extra height of the khumos i really had no pull out of 2nd gear corners at SIR. and a harder time winning stoplight drags. ;-P though... on the other hand... i could keep it in third until a better spot in turn 9, and i could get on the gas sooner for tuen 8 that seemed to pay off a bit... so maybe the gearing was a tradeoff, but the thing is, that it's a CHANGE from the stock tires. by the way... toyos are the same way as well. (too tall). maybe i need to change the way i said it. prefaced by a personal admission that i "fear change". here's my second attempt... --- of all the r-compound tires, only a032rs are the same width and height as the stock tires for my 17/7.5 rims, which are 235/40/17s. a032rs feel like stock tires with magically more grip. (that just happen to be really loud) all other r-compound tires have "issues" associated with them (some good, some bad). ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

#10. Eibach Swaybar Group Purchase - from Suzy Kraft

Date: Tue, 01 Aug 2000 12:52:11 -0500 From: Suzy Kraft <suzy@bmwmpower.com> Subject: Eibach Swaybar Group Purchase Hey Guys and Gals, I've set up a great deal on some Eibach swaybars if anyone is interested (I'm getting a set, too) Top Notch Auto will sell them to us for $300 per set plus shipping with no minimum order size, but there is a limit of only 10 sets that are available. You need to call or email Top Notch Auto directly and mention the E36 M3 mailing list because the special price is for us only. The first 10 list members to contact them will get the special $300 price. (Even if there are less than 10, they will still honor the $300 price) Top Notch will be glad to answer your questions, but please don't waste their time unless you are serious about buying a set as they are cutting us a great deal. There will be a 4-5 week wait to get the swaybars as the next shipment is not due from Germany until Sept 4. The number to call to reserve your swaybars is 1-800-841-5394 and ask for Rob or you can email Rob directly at <Rob@TopNotchAuto.com> If this group purchase works out, I will try to arrange a few more. Let's see how this one goes, and don't forget to mention the E36 M3 mailing list. Also, if you wouldn't mind, let me know if you order a set, as I would like to know just how much interest there is.
