I had what appears to be the exact same problem on my former 3 series. The A/C appeared to be functioning (i.e. compressor buzzing) but no airflow. The fix was to re-start the car. Apparently the vents would not always open up, therefore, cool air was flowing...just not into the car. The dealer fixed it under warranty. Sometimes the aircon doesn't kickoff (overcharged etc) and freezes up. Same symptoms in many cases. #4. E46 is getting too big (was E46 - agile??) - from david tow
Top
Date: Tue, 01 Aug 2000 11:58:31 PDT From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: E46 is getting too big (was E46 - agile??) That's why some seasoned drivers preferred older, light, and low-powered cars than newer, high performance and heavy cars. You could explore the limit in a lower-powered car easier without risking your life or the car, and it actually FEELS fast. Whereas a modern high-powered car has a much higher limit and less feel (thanks to the constant refinement our automakers make to our new cars) that you have to drive it much faster to explore the limit or feel good. You could get into a lot of trouble once you get there. I hope that we could get back to the basic one day and be able to purchase cars without all the gadgets that the automakers could make money on, such as some of the useless power accessaries, cup holders, food holders, back massage, feet warmers, etc, etc. :o) Personally I think the current 3 series cars are getting a little too big to be agile. One of the main attractions of a 3 series car is its small size and light weight not unlike the legendary 2002. I suspect that most 3 series car owners are sports car lovers, but have to have a 4-seater for the practicality. David Tow ---------------------- Sean Hester wrote: i guess it depends on what you mean by agility. "agility" and "potential to drive fast in a slalom" arent't really the same thing. the e36 is definetly lighter and more agile (my definition of agile being "quick weight transitions") then the e46. but that doesn't mean it's necessarily faster in turns. just more fun to drive. it's the same story with e30 M3s vs e36 M3s. e30s are more agile and when the e36 came out, people called it a heavy pig. but... it's faster. and not just because of the engine, the suspension is "better". the same thing will happen with the e46. i expect it to be faster but not as "agile". which do you like better? how agile do you want? (miata anyone?) how much agility will you trade for speed? ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Date: Tue, 1 Aug 2000 15:01:01 -0400 From: "Olin, Jason (NIMH)" <jolin@mail.nih.gov> Subject: New to Maryland Hi all, You can respond to this email privately, unless this is relevant to the list (which I doubt). We just moved to Montgomery County in July, and I work in Rockville (a big change from LA). At any rate, can anyone provide advice on: (a) a good car wash (seriously?!) and (b) VOB vs Tischer for service (with specific service advisors recs, too?). Also, aside from the safety exam, do I need to get the car smogged prior to registration? In return, I would be happy to share any info about LA ad nauseum. Sorry for the wasted space, but no one drives an M3 at NIMH. Jason Olin '97 2Dr M3 Cosmos Black (stock everything) NIMH jolin@mail.nih.gov

#6. E46 M3 and DTM - from Roy Kao
Top
Date: Tue, 01 Aug 2000 15:09:18 EDT From: "Roy Kao" <bimmerphile@hotmail.com> Subject: E46 M3 and DTM I think BMW can in fact race the new M3 with a V8, likely the S52(?) motor from the new M5. If memory serves from the magazine Autosport, the manufacturers can in fact put in engines that are not necessarily part of the production car's regular engine but one that must come from the manufacturer as a part of their regular product engines. This meant that Opel was able to put a V8 in the new Astra coupe DTM racer even though Opel does not in fact offer a V8 in production Astras. As well, Audi put in a turbocharged six cylinder engine (I think?) instead of the regular offering of the variants of the 1.8T four cylinder engine. So, ostensibly BMW can have the choice of putting in the V8 engine in the E46 M3 shell and conform to DTM regulations. Please feel free to correct me if my facts are wrong! I had my car in the dealer and they said that it was bent. I have no idea how it happened. Is there a good write up around on this procedure or does anyone have any tips? Just one more thing to add to my suspension install this weekend. Thanks. JOHN 98 M3 slightly bent :( ===== ///M3's and Jet Skis/// __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
