(this is hard, and if you don't weigh 200lbs like me you >might have problems) once it's all the way down twist the allen wrench >(which will twist the rod) and you'll feel some "tabs and slots" catch as >you turn it. it may take half a turn to get the internal parts to "mate". >now that they are "mated" you are adjusting the shock. just like the front, >CCW is looser, CW is tighter. Alternatively, you can put the 13mm nylock nut on the shock rod - just enough that it's firmly seated. Then, grab a 13mm socket, along with a 6" extension. Put the extended socket in a vise, horizontally, clamping on the extension (the 13mm socket is now pointing at you. Now you can put the "nutted" end of the shock in the socket, compress the shock body and adjust to taste. This approach really keeps the rod firmly in place, and allows you to put your shoulder and body into the slow compression of the shock without worrying about slippage. It also seems easier to keep it compressed, and is very easy to keep track of how many half turns you've adjusted. One other thing...the fronts adjust oppisite from the rear - up front, CCW is firmer (just look at the koni tool) Good luck, Rob 93 325 _______________________________ Rob Norwalk Raytheon Systems Company Vc:219.429.4737 Fx:219.429.5004

Date: Mon, 07 Aug 2000 08:34:20 -0500 From: Suzy Kraft <suekraft@mindspring.com> Subject: Eibach Swaybar Group Purchase Update I heard from Rob at Top Notch Auto over the weekend and so far there are 7 list members (including myself) participating in the Eibach swaybar group purchase. Which means there are still 3 left if anyone is interested. The price is $300 (plus shipping) per set and you need to contact Rob directly if you would like to get on the list. His email is <rob@topnotchauto.com> or phone 1-800-841-5394. Top Notch Auto has offered to donate a small percentage (2%) of the GP sales (or anything else they sell to an E36M3 list member) back to us to help in the maintenance of this mailing list and the bmwmpower web site. That is why it is important to mention that you are an E36M3 list member when you contact them - so you can get the special price, and Top Notch Auto will make a donation towards the list/web site. Thanks! Suzy

#5. RE: Buying Advise on a 1995 318is - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Mon, 7 Aug 2000 11:32:47 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: RE: Buying Advise on a 1995 318is Fellow BMW Owners, I located a 1995 318is this weekend for my girlfriend that only had 17,000 miles, automatic, leather and a CD changer. She is currently driving a '97 Accord which comes off lease this month. The car appeared to be in great shape overall. The worst items about the car were a few dime sized dings (about seven) in the rear passenger quarter panel and a few in the trunk lid and the lack of ASC. The seller was more than willing to pay to have the dings removed as well as complete detailing if I wanted. I think Dentmaster could handle them fairly easily. The interior was perfect and the car seemed to run pretty strong for a 1.8 liter. I am considering having a prepurchase inspection done by a qualified mechanic but I do not want to waste his time if this car is not a good choice. My question is>>>> what else should I be aware of in a 318is and what is a fair price in your opinion. The Kelley trade-in (wholesale) price was $15,000 with a retail value of $19,700. Is this a car to avoid for some reason or would it be adequate for a non-performance oriented person looking for solid reliable transportation. The guy listed it for $18,900 but I think he would take something in the neighborhood of $17,000 and some change. I think this still may be a little high. All you prior/current owners feel free to chime in. Please respond privately. Best regards, Rich PS - The guy selling the car turned out to be sports agent with one of his clientele being some guy named Tiger (which I confirmed with a friend I have working at IMG). This guy must have been all of 30 living in a somewhat modest home ($500,000) I imagine for his salary. Nice guy who travels continually, his wife works with him, and he has little use for a 318is since he drives an Explorer (and his pregnant wife drives a Saab).

#6. Metal Thermostat Housing - from DiVincenti, A.J.

Date: Mon, 7 Aug 2000 11:07:14 -0500 From: "DiVincenti, A.J." <ADiVin@lsusd.lsuhsc.edu> Subject: Metal Thermostat Housing Help. I've searched the archives in vain to find the part number for the metal thermostat housing. One post referenced a number, but when the guy at the parts counter pulled it, it turned out to be the plastic one. Does BMW make the metal housing or is it after-market? BMW is only showing the fine German plastic one. Sorry, I know this has been covered. A.J. DiVincenti Assistant Dean for Fiscal Affairs LSU School of Dentistry

I've read some posts about pulleys and a lightened flywheel being very very bad for the engine. My question is, If i keep the normal flywheel and put on the Unorthodox Kit will it be OK. Can i get away with only putting some of the pulleys on, Is it ok if i don't track it. Basically I'm asking if i should do it? Thanks in advance. Frank

My car will be needing a new clutch/fly soon, and I'm worried about the UD Pulley + LTW fly combo problem. I've received mixed reviews. Some say the AA 10-12 lb. fly should cause no problems. Others say Stay Away. In any event, if things go awry, you're looking at BIG BUCKS to fix your drivetrain damage. Too speculative to say whether the LTW Fly and the Pulley combo. will NOT be a problem. Best way is to test out the combo on s.o. else's car first.
