After going through an amp and Stealthbox install....I have a few observations also. Anything you replace will bring a measure of improvement to the stock system. The speakers, for example, weigh practically nothing and I am amazed they can put such crap in a car of this caliber. Next for me is to replace the front speakers with ADS. The head unit will be last and I will use the ADS behind the scenes box that keeps everything looking perfectly stock. Since I live in the NY/CT area, a stereo system that doesn't stay in the car......isn't worth squat. I have used removable face plates and had the face plate stolen (ironic isn't it). I also think the face plates are a pain in the ass since I always forgot mine. My friend was out all night and forgot to remove his stereo when he got back home late one morning. The stereo disappeared that day. Nothing is worse then having your car ripped apart for your stereo equipment. Date: Wed, 9 Aug 2000 00:59:22 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: Stock Ride Height Results - Revised Ron said everybody except one person made their ride height measurements with no driver and 1/2 tank of gas. Guess who the odd guy was? :-) My first measurements were made with an empty (1.5 gallons) tank. I remeasured with a 1/2 tank of gas. 1/2 tank empty LF 13 11/16 13 3/4 RF 13 9/16 13 5/8 LR 13 13 3/8 RR 12 11/16 13 1/8 Adding 8 gallons of gas lowered my M3 about 1/16" in the front and 3/8" in the rear. I think I am on the lower end of the average but my front to rear variation is about average. Thanks Ron! Lowell Seaton '95 M3/2 Dallas, Texas BMW CCA #131505

#4. OBC Question - from Jon D. Holder

Date: Tue, 8 Aug 2000 21:31:35 -0700 From: "Jon D. Holder" <jdholder@home.com> Subject: OBC Question First, I want to say a big thank you to Suzy for maintaining this list. The quality of content and knowledge is extremely helpful to me as my 1998 M3 is my first BMW. I returned home to Orange County, CA today from Las Vegas, NV. A trip of approximately 280 miles. I was exploring the many functions of the OBC and found a couple of very nice features. Of particular interest was the DIST feature, when coupled with my BMW Navigation System, gave me a perfect estimate of what time I would arrive at my destination. My question relates, however, to the RANGE function of the computer. As I passed Baker (a small desolate outpost with one very important commodity - GAS) I noted on my OBC that my RANGE was 120 miles. So I continued on. The next outpost being Yermo, then Barstow (80 miles distant) - felt I was well within the comfort zone of the RANGE. As I continued, the RANGE seemed to decrease at an increasing rate, until 20 miles north of Yermo, my RANGE was at 27 miles and the car ran out of gas. By the way, it was only 107 degrees and no shade is sight. So - obviously, the RANGE function is out of calibration. My question is - How do I calibrate it, or do I just not trust it anymore? End of the story is that 1 hour later I had a nice tan, and 5 gallons of gas compliments of the AAA Tow Truck Driver who said I was lucky it was so cool. Apparently last week, it reached 120 degrees. Any help would be appreciated. Sincerely, Jon Holder

Which Exhaust sounds better on an M3 the Active Autowerke Exhaust or the UUC Motorwerks system. Now when i say better i mean, nice mellow idle and a deep racy tone under full acceleration while not being so loud from in the cabin that you want to park your car and go home without it.. thanks Frank

I know ITG sells panel filters for our M3s and I have had a ton of folks peer jealously under the hood and after hearing about the virtues want a Jim Conforti setup for their non-M3 non-Bimmer.
