However, I know now that this is not the way it works! Proof - the AAA tow truck operator gave me EXACTLY 5 gallons of fuel. I get in the car, start it up and the RANGE function says I have 150 miles to go. I KNOW I wasn't getting 30 mpg sitting on the side of the freeway. I checked both readouts on CONSUM 1 (which has not been reset in 10k miles since I bought the car) and CONSUM 2 which I reset each time I fill up. CONSUM1 says 18.4 mpg and CONSUM2 says 24.8 mpg. Therefore the RANGE function SHOULD read 24.8 x 5 Gallons = 124 at the most. I know it maybe a trivial question, but I'm interested in how it works and if there is a tech procedure for calibrating it - yes I will ask my dealer at my INSPII service coming up soon. If it says you have 50 miles left and you drive the piss out of it all of a sudden, it'll drop to 5 miles really quick. BTW, Keep an eye on the little gauge on the left of the IC. That'll help you from running out of gas :) -Bobby '98 M3 that always gets fed at 1/8 to 1/4 tank ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. *************************************************************

#2. Oil Light on? - from Peter Guagenti

Date: Wed, 9 Aug 2000 18:10:24 -0700 From: "Peter Guagenti" <peter@guagenti.com> Subject: Oil Light on? I have a problem I hope y'all can help with. The oil light in my '95 has started coming on at idle. After the car warms up, my VDO gauges show a drop to about 15 and the light flickers on. I've played with different oil weights, thinking it may be that (typical thing for VW's...), but it hasn't helped. Is there any other advice folks can offer? Is that pressure too low? Are there certain parts that may be the cause that I can replace? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm avoiding the mechanic like the plague... Thanks. -peterg

This being the case, I'd suggest going with a Referenz Line component system, such as the PSC213 for the front. As for the factory amp. you will need you replace it, since it has built in crossovers which are not compatible with MB Quart speakers and in order to use the MB Quart crossover, you'll need to send an unfiltered signal. #6. Opinion Question - from Dave Hogg

Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2000 22:06:47 -0400 From: Dave Hogg <springwood@BlazeNet.net> Subject: Opinion Question Sounds like the AA is what you want. Nice rumbly reminder when you start the car in the am, then it purrs almost as quiet as stock. Gives a nice louder-and-meaner-than-stock sound when you tromp the gas, but for cruising, it's almost stock, and NO resonant speeds. 18 lbs lighter than stock, too. At an NCC autocross last year, the guy doing the brake check stopped me (I thought I'd failed) just to ask what brand exhaust I had. It sounded that goooood to him behind the car. What's more, AA stands behind their stuff (I'm sure UUC does, too). AA had many of their early tips crack, so they redesigned them for better durability (and really shiny, too). I emailed and told them mine had cracked; they shipped me new tips, no questions asked. $10 at Monro, and I'm all fixed. No other signs of fatigue after 17 months. I'm an AA believer. In my case it may be a bit more difficult. I need to have the Dent Wizzards remove a couple of door dings that I inherited when I bought the car. I plan to remove the panels before I take the car to them. Otherwise, they might botch up the door panels or drill holes in the door jam area. The complication that I foresee is related to the side airbags (I have a '98) and any other electronics that might be connected to the door and door panels. Will the car complain if I drive it with the airbags disconnected? Will anything need to be reset afterward (i.e. a trip to the dealer)? Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2000 00:09:32 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Range This is almost exactly what my '95 M3 does. I have seen as much as 514 miles on the range. Usually after I fill up the mileage range will increase! My M3 must be making its own gas ;-) I have gotten 410 miles on a tank. And on the other end, my tank does not seem to run dry either. My range will go down to 9 miles and then start blinking dashes. I have driven up to 20 miles after the blinking dashes without running out of gas. Someday I will put a can of gas in the car and drive until it is out of gas just to see how far it really will go after the range says zero. IMHO, the range function is practically worthless. I much prefer the MPG gauge in the tachometer. It at least seems to give a good instantaneous reading.
