Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2000 09:11:08 -0600 From: stu burness <burness@unm.edu> Subject: Re: Range -- one last time While the relation: RANGE = MPG X REMAINING FUEL is true, in application it's only an approximation. With a partial tank of fuel the range readout is based on: RANGE = HISTORICAL MPG X REMAINING FUEL while actual range is determined by: RANGE = FUTURE MPG X REMAINING FUEL Fortunately, in this case one has SOME control over the future, so the moral becomes: "Go slow (but don't stop) to smell the roses." Of course, another issue here is how even historical MPG is determined electronically. I doubt that it works this way, but it's possible to determine (i.e., approximate) that relationship through the fuel tank float level and the odometer. If so, then we got even more problems. Nuff! It's definitely louder then stock even at idle, but not much. It doesn't really start to increase in sound till you hit around 3k or so which is perfect for me cause I don't have to listen to it when I'm just putzing around (if thats possible in a m3). In regards to the tips cracking (which I've heard several people mention) I have not had any problems and I drove through an entire Chicago winter....
