Anybody better I should look at? Also, has anyone tried the E46 aluminum pedal covers? I'm thinking about adding a pair to a big list of parts I need to order. Thanks, y'all! -Paul E. 97 M3/2

Being that the stock suspension > is set up for everything to run in harmony and I have aftermarket sways but > stock everything else, is it possible that the increased stiffness is > putting too much pressure on the stock pieces (including sway bar links)? > What type of damage could this be causing? If you're running the stock sway bar links then yes, they do wear out, they make a clunking sound when they do, and stiffer sway bars could lead to increased wear. I doubt they could fail in any catastrophic way on the street, but maybe at the track or autocross. If your ball joints, control arm bushings, strut bearing bolt and strut tower bolts, and tie rod ends are OK, then I'd definitely try new sway bar links. You can tighten the bolts all you want, the noise won't go away if the links are bad. Basically, the joints in the link just wear out and get sloppy. I recently purchased a set of E36 M3 adjustable sway bar links from Ground Control. You could also make your own as described on the UUC site's tips section. At $100 a pair, the GC pieces are not cheap, but not at all outrageous considering the quality of materials they use. Installing these puppies eliminated the final clunking noises from my front end. Nice to have a solid sounding car again! You really only need one adjustable link to adjust the preload on the swaybar, but if one link is worn out, you might as well replace both. You could always just try new stock pieces as well, but I have no idea what they run at the dealer. -- Ron Katona

A mildly modded one can put out around 400 RWHP, with more extreme modifications upping the output to over 600!! A good friend of mine who lives in Texas stopped at my place on the way back from Conn. with the '97 supra he had just purchased. Estimated RWHP was around 450. At the time I'd had my M3 for about a month. We took both cars out for several runs. The Supra was just amazing. In 4th gear at 70-80mph, when the boost hit, it threw you back in the seat, as strong or stronger than the M does at torque peak in 1st and 2nd. I could get a jump on him off the line as the boost wasn't set to kick in until 3500 rpm, but after that, it was no contest. I'd much rather have the M as a daily driver, but the modded Supra just had insane amounts of power. I actually considered one before picking up my M3/4. Stock, a MKIV supra runs high 13's in the 1/4. --Sean '98 M3/4 -- Sharked >Anyway a little off subject I was getting on the expressway the other night >and there was a Supra Turbo which I don't think was stock. Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2000 23:33:55 -0400 From: "Dargan" <dargpa01@slic.com> Subject: Re: OBC ?'s I've had a similar question concerning the ETA feature used with the "Dist" function. Presumably the OBC calculates this time by using the input distance and some estimated average speed. Where does it get this speed? It seemed to me to use the last speed before the car was shut off, i.e. driving into the garage. In the case of the "range" function, same question. Does it calculate based on the average consumption over the last ten minutes, ten miles, life of car, or what??? Is it the consumption at the instant the button is punched? If so, what does it use if idling when the button is punched? Anyone know? Pat D. If you got stuck in traffic and your mpg fell from 28 in easy cruise to 10mpg in creep and crawl traffic in Barstow your range expected would plummet.
