#1. More on AA exhuast, Shark Injecter and a curb jump - from Andy Korczynski
Top
Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2000 13:57:09 -0500 From: Andy Korczynski <Andy@casskor.com> Subject: More on AA exhuast, Shark Injecter and a curb jump A while back I posted a message about my AA exhuast making a rattling noise (It's been on for about a year) and the general consensus was that it was either a loose hanger or some loose bolts that connect the AA exhuast pipes to the cat section. Well I finally, got my butt under the car this morning and one of the screw/bolt combos on that connects the exhuast to the cat section was loose. Coming back from almost a 2 week vacation I was now ready to go for a spirited drive in my now non-rattling m3. I also got my Shark Injector while I was gone and updated the car. Last corner before my house I decide to take a bit fast. Well I took it a bit too fast (thanks Jim) and the car flipped around. So can I sue Jim C. for giving my car that extra edge that caused this to happen? Anyways, I hit the curb (maybe 3-4 inches high) with my rear at probably a 30-40 degree angle. The wheel is obviously damaged, but no flat! Should I bring in the car and get the rear sway, shocks, shocks mounts, and axle checked out or is there something I can do myself? I drove the car around for a bit afterwords and it felt fine...So am I the only moron that has crashed his car right after installing the Jim C. software??? Andy K.

#5. Door panel removal update... - from Brent Williams
Top
Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2000 14:30:11 -0500 From: "Brent Williams" <brent@williamsconsultingltd.com> Subject: Door panel removal update... Many thanks for all of you that gave me the run down on the door panel removal. Speakers are hooked up and working now. Get this, the speakers were wired to eachother. So both amp wires were plugged into eachother. Can this hurt my amp? Just wondering. Also, they literally ripped up my door, and to top it all off, they actually used duct tape inside my door. Can you believe this? The junk holder at the bottom of the door was removed from the door skin, as is the top panel that clips into the door. Will be removing it and apoxying it together in the near future. When I get my new garage that is. All in all, I now have the speakers working, but I kinda wish I hadn't looked. It really is bad. Go figure. For all of you that said I needed the bently manual, I have it, and I can't find it. It is boxed while I am in the process of moving. And it really is great. But who really needs one whey we have all the digesters who will send you the pages via email! Really though, thanks to everyone who helped. Thanks again. Brent

#6. Floating Calipers - from Steve D'Gerolamo

Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2000 15:34:46 -0400 From: "Steve D'Gerolamo" <steved3@idt.net> Subject: Floating Calipers Found this on another list regarding the brake caliper design of most contemporary cars....and all BMW's. SD From: "Carl Jones" <carl@melbourne.net> Subject: Re: [Ferrari] floating calipers on Ferrari's??? One of the reasons why floating calipers have awful feel through the pedal is they have very poor bridge strength. This is the part that links both side of the calipers. As you press on the pedal the caliper is actually distorted by the clamp load. If you have a look at a proper car's caliper like a Ferrari or Porsche the caliper is very strong in this area. Even the bottom of the range Porsche has a 4 piston caliper with a differential bore (to eliminate taper wear) and is a monobloc construction i.e. one piece to make it as strong as possible. The construction of the brakes alone on something like an M-3 (and the new M5) is a sad reflection on BMW's intended purpose of this vehicle. ========================================= Steve D'Gerolamo - The Ultimate Garage 201-262-0412 / steved3@idt.net / http://www.ultimategarage.com

Road America (about 50 miles north of Milwaukee) is one of the worlds great road courses. Four miles of long straights, fast corners, big elevation changes and the famous kink. The school will be held on October 7th and 8th. Instructors, lappers and advanced students may also drive on Friday, October 6th. I've been to this school each of the last 3 years and it has always been well run and a lot of fun. Links to the application on the Badger Bimmer site and to a track map for Road America are below. Hope to see you there. http://www.badgerbimmers.org/2000_Events/OFast2000/ofast2000.html http://www.roadamerica.com/images/maps/detail.gif -- Mike Clemens '97 M3/4 '00 S4

#10. Dyno runs of Shark Injected M3 - from Suwipin Martono

Date: Fri, 11 Aug 2000 16:42:44 -0700 (PDT) From: Suwipin Martono <martono@newton.me.berkeley.edu> Subject: Dyno runs of Shark Injected M3 Hi all, I posted some plots at www.bimmer.org of my five dyno runs right after I injected Jim C's Shark Injector on my 97 M3 Coupe. Please comment on this (especially Jim C). We might have done something wrong during the dyno session or we might not, but in any case, based on these results I was pretty disappointed. I used a different name (Christopher) on that board because I'm not really fond of flamers (w/ some nasty attitude) on that board. Thanx, pin
