#5. Ice9 for Sale - from John Van Houten
Top
Date: Tue, 15 Aug 2000 15:04:05 -0500 From: "John Van Houten" <jvanhouten@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Ice9 for Sale Well, one of the hardest decisions of my life has been made--Ice9 is for sale. It is a _phenomenal_ M3 originally owned and modified by Carl Buckland. A few improvements have been made under my ownership, but is largely as I picked it up from Carl. It has all the comforts of a street car (leather, AC, CD changer) and all the performance of a race car (sorted coilover suspension, estimated 290HP by Jim C, rollbar). While a Q-tipper might run for the hills based upon pedigree, the car is in excellent shape, has been waxed frequently, and has been garage stored daily and for the winter. I can give a serious buyer more information based upon the discussions and private information that I got from Carl. Why am I selling the best car the I have ever owned? The answer is simple (and expensive)--racing--coupled with the fact that I never drive it any more, except to the track; my new job is downtown-I take the "L". While Ice9 would be a tremendous force in I-Prepared BMWCCA Club Racing, I have decided to go the ITS route. I have several friends already racing ITS in Chicago that I want to join on the track. The basics: 95 M3 Avus Blue/Dove Grey 80k miles on the chassis, 28k on the motor (TC Kline built, est. 290HP by Jim C) Sunroof, Cruise, Tilt Wheel, CD Changer, Factory Alarm HRB GpN Coilover suspension with strut braces, camber plates, etc. Custom intake Custom exhaust Blanton Differential Many more, basically, every mod in the book... In case you may be wondering, yes, this car has been tracked--a lot. On the flip side, it has been meticulously maintained by Murray BMW (SLC), Bavarian Auto Service (SC) Midwest Motorsport (CHI) and myself. Recent maintenance includes: new suspension rubber (last year), new tie rods (last month), new diff seals and bushings (this month), Insp II (this month), new S02s (<1000mi),... I have all my receipts or photocopies of Carl's (several hundred pages) More detail and pictures can be seen on my website www.netcom.com/~jvanhout/bmw/bmw.html Be sure to check out Carl's old site on www.unofficialbmw.com (not up to date, however) Asking price is in the mid-thirties depending on what is included (wheels, spares, etc.) If you have any questions, please let me know. My apologies to Jonathan Caldito as I also misread his recommendation to apply to manual transmission lube changes. I mixed my previous experience with change auto transmission lube in 4HP22 transmission (that does require 25K mile lube and filter change$) with his reference to E36 M3 slush box. > Sorry for the mis-information. My complaints about Redline > (and its <mis>application to manual trannies) still applies. Skip, Please help me understand your suspicion of Redline products. I read you haven't had any luck getting data sheets out of them of finding any Redline patents, but how does that reflect on Redline <mis>application to manual trannies? curious, alex f

#8. Auto tranny on a 95? - from SpeedU4EA@aol.com

Date: Tue, 15 Aug 2000 18:03:19 EDT From: SpeedU4EA@aol.com Subject: Auto tranny on a 95? Hello Michael Ting and everyone, I was following the thread on ATF and have a question. Michael has a 95 M3. I thought automatics only came on the four door M3 and that was only available in 97 and 98. Is that right? Do other years have automatics? I couldn't be caught dead in one :) but the SO wants an older auto M3. I thought 97 was the oldest. Can someone help me out. Thanks, Roy 98 M3 with the the free extra pedal

Date: Tue, 15 Aug 2000 18:53:12 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Auto tranny on a 95? Yep, automatics were available late in the '95 model year. A little trivia. The luxury package, i.e., wood grain, plusher seats, leather on the doors, slat style grill, cup holders, .... was first available late in the '95 model year. I'd guess about 9/95 and later. The automatic was only available in '95 with the luxury package. The '95 automatic came with a 3.23 rear end ratio vs. 3.15 for the '95 manual. Then in the '96 model year, no automatic transmission whatsoever was available. But the luxury package could now be had with the manual tranny. Right? Then beginning with the '97 model year, the auto tranny was available again but only with 4 door and convertibles. The 2 door M3 had to have a manual transmission. I forget what happened to the luxury package. I think the individual components became available separately. For example, the plusher seats and wood grain became separate options. Right? Some of the luxury package became standard such as the cup holders and leather on the doors. The rear end ratio varies with chose of transmission. Automatics got a 3.23 in '95 and 3.38 in '96-'99. (Was there an automatic offered in '99?) Manual transmissions had a 3.15 in '95 and 3.23 from '96-'99. Except for the LTW which had a 3.23. Hope that helps. If your SO wants a '95 auto, they are available. I don't know how many were produced but I bet a fair number. You could probably get a '95 M3 auto for about $19,000. Prices are dropping fast on '95 M3's :( Lowell Seaton '95 M3/2 - manual Dallas, Texas BMW CCA #131505 Lone Star Chapter

#10. San Francisco only: skid car seat time - from Jason Bishop

Date: Tue, 15 Aug 2000 17:50:49 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Bishop <jason@secondhat.com> Subject: San Francisco only: skid car seat time Hi folks. I took Sean's suggestion and asked Russell racing school if I could rent their skid car for an afternoon. They are still thinking about it, but a possibility is to get 3 or maybe 4 people for 3 or 4 15 to 20 minute sessions in their skid car on a weekday. I was thinking of taking off from san francisco early afternoon and heading up to sears point. It would have to be on a weekday they said because weekends are pretty booked. I will find out what hours are available to us. maybe later in the afternoon would still work. if anybody would be interested in this, let me know. right now it is just myself and possibly a coworker. so were looking at 1 to 3 more people depending on what coworker says and what russell says. one date that was tossed around was aug 31. i think thats a thursday.
