The guy (Don) lived in Altoona, PA. Anyway, the guy had a pristine '97 M3/2 red which he tracked some and now is selling. The car was in near perfect shape. I could not find a thing wrong with it (except a spec of dirt in the paint from the factory). Also I drove this car with the B&B Triflo exhaust. The exhaust was not as loud as I expected and sounded quite nice. To the point. Don had ordered the car with every option he wanted. He basically wanted a lightweight with A/C and ordered it that way. Of the items he ordered/configured was the 3.23 diff and the "Delete Leather" option. His seats were suede on the side panels with a woven fabric center panel. These seats were fantastic and I wish I had them. The side bolsters showed absolutely no wear and I could see they would be less likely to show wear as time progressed. The seats also grip much better than leather which makes them even better for the track. Sadly, Don is going to sell the car. When he does I will post it here (and he will also put it in the Roundel). Don is joining the P Car fold (for the track) and buying an S4 for the street. Regards, Rich 95 M3 (wishing it had the delete leather option)

The car also had the "Check Brake Circuit" light on, both before the lights were installed and after. His brakes did work though. Brett Anderson thinks you should probably "change the brake light switch" if you are getting this message. Regards, Rich

I have a 3.2 liter 1997 M3 and noticed that BMP list the Bosch Plus 4 plug as a fit at $5.99 each. Regular listed plug for this car cost $20.00 each. Am I missing something here. I had my 1998 M3/4 in for an Inspection II a couple of months ago, and they did the side airbag fix. Service advisor said that one guy had a side airbag deploy when he hit a pothole, they needed to reduce the sensitivity of some shock sensor. (Hey, if they can get the airbag sensors right, maybe there's hope for car alarms. :-> ) I think it's still a service bulletin, not an actual recall, or people would be getting letters. Call your dealer; they might be able to tell by your VIN whether your car is affected, and save you a trip if it's not. -- David Ripton dripton@wizard.net

One of the local shops prefers it over the Redline product. The weight is either 10W40 or 20W50. I run Mobil 1 15W50s during the summer and the BMW synth oil at 5W40 in winters. I do about 10-12 track days a year and the rest of the time, it's just street driving. #8. E36 M3 Custom Koni adjustment tool - from Christopher J. N. Kolaitis

Kolaitis" <chrisjnk@ix.netcom.com> Subject: E36 M3 Custom Koni adjustment tool Hey Peter, I had the same problem trying to adjust my front Koni shocks. The UUC Strut tower brace rings (replacing the Dinan brace also had the same problem) and the camber, caster adjustments positioning the Koni adjuster almost all the way back to the edge of the opening made adjusting impossible with almost no clearance. I simply used a 8" piece of aluminum stock about 3/8" wide and 1/8" thick. Drilled out the end (notched) to fit the Koni adjuster. Epoxied the other end into the plastic Koni adjusting knob. Made a nice extension to the Koni adjusting knob, took about 15 minutes or 1 beer, the beer was good too! What sucks about them is that front end adjustments require a special tool without which the adjustments simply can't be made. The little notch that has to be twisted is located so close to the outer edge of the shock tower that no other tool can be used. It's weird why Koni would place the notch like that. My buddy didn't have the tool with him, so he had to auto-x with a lousy set up. Not even needle nose pliers can twist that little notch! >>> Andrej Dolenc <adolenc@erols.com> 08/16/00 09:49AM >>> Date: Wed, 16 Aug 2000 09:35:53 -0500 From: Andrej Dolenc <adolenc@erols.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Suspension problems > 3) Left Front Koni insert has about an inch of travel before it > activates its valving (this is the source of the clunking sound, I > think). > 4) Rear Koni's slightly moist, suggesting minor leaks. <snip> > Are Koni's rebuildable? I was leaning towards Koni's, but if they have a tendency to fail after a while, I might have to reconsider that. Thanks, Andrej '97 M3
