#1. Ontrack Insurance - from Carey Probst
Top
Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 08:57:29 -0400 From: Carey Probst <hcprobst@alum.mit.edu> Subject: Ontrack Insurance The good news is that Ontrack also offers a track only policy at about half the cost of their regular collision/comprehensive where you keep your existing insurance and they only cover damage during driving schools. For my 99 M3 they want $1181 for 5000 miles track and street or $681 unlimited track. The real problem (I don't know anything about Reliance) in my mind is the deductable. The estimate I received said 20% for driving school events but 35% for events at Watkins Glen (my normal track). That's a $16,000 deductable on an agreed value of $45000 for the car. -- Carey Probst '99M3 E-Mail: Carey.Probst@oracle.com Perm: hcprobst@alum.mit.edu A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

How much should the payments be for 36 months with $5000 down? I'm calculating around $ 550 plus tax but the dealer says it should be about $ 650? I be interested how much others are paying. Also, after ejecting the magazine for 6 months, this unit had eaten the magazine and a CD so some of these parts may have been replaced to fix anything damaged as well. I hope this helps... If you have a schmatic, it might be easy to replace the stuff yourself. Let me reclarify what wasn't in the earlier post below...about getting your Alpine CD changer fixed... 1. CALLING Alpine and wading through the phone prompts will buy you absolutely NOTHING except a chance to talk to someone (I spoke to "Brian"). 2. Brian told me ALL repairs to BMW CD changers had to go through a BMW dealership. That is you have to take your changer to a BMW dealer FIRST... you can't send them directly to Alpine. 3. Then, BMW will send it on to Alpine, and they'll return it back to your dealer. I told Brian (rather nicely...I don't know why...because I felt like screaming): "I didn't like this process as it wasn't the 'cleanest' for me, but I'd do it." After I get my repaired unit back, I will come back here and tell you all that I think Alpine is the among most FUCKED up outfits in the universe. But I'll wait until they fix my unit before I go public saying that! Boy, but are they ever stupid shits at ENGINEERING and CUSTOMER SERVICE. Anyway, don't waste your time calling Alpine directly. The address and phone number below are pointless. Am I the only one who called them up after this post below 7 days ago? No one to my knowledge saved other listers from making irrelevant long distance calls. - Skip Tim Ng wrote: > > Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 23:44:54 -0400 > From: "tim ng" <BMWM3NUT@worldnet.att.net> > Subject: [uuc] alpine CD changer, you are in luck > > Here is the info you need. I must say, it is a QUICK car. The one I drove was 5sp, FULLY loaded, and stickering in the 42k-43k range. I'm not sure whether the tires were bad, but I was able to chirp the tires in 1, 2, AND 3 (with DSC off of course). The car is nimble, very responsive, and reminds me of my E36 M back in its stock days. However, the steering needs a little help. It's no where near the M's steering. Also, despite the "sports package", the 330Ci rides like it's on air - much like the Audi S4. I'm not sure whether this car is worth as much as the asking price... but it's definitely a car worth thinking about for non-M3 bimmerphiles. P

I didn't like the idea of dropping my collision coverage, I'm only interested in some supplemental coverage while I'm on the track. Maybe I didn't dig deep enough into the website, but I think they should make this info more noticable. $500 is cheap if you have a problem at the track. Hell, you can't even replace a bumper cover for $500. However, I still don't like the idea of Reliance writing the coverage. I'll have to give them a call. A dedicated track car would be a wonderful thing, but the resulting divorce wouldn't be worth it. (Well, maybe, nah... but... no, it wouldn't :) My dad's retired and looking at a boat, my current plan is to talk him into buying a track car and starting a new hobby. I'll even put his name on it in big letters. ;) Eric 95 M3 95 325i ------------------------------------------------------------- Sean Hester wrote: i have no idea about the financial situation of the company. but i DO know, from long talks with them, (back when i still thought it was a good idea to bring my street car to the track) that they will work out policies that work for street/track cars. i had them work out a policy for me that was in effect ONLY on the track (in which case 5000 miles a year is plenty) as opposed to their "standard" idea of covering you for ALL liability claims, even on the street. in this case however i'd have to keep my current policy intact and ADD their policy. (their "standard" plan, is that you cancl your liability with your current company) the price, for this plan, for my 95 M3 was about $500 a year if i remember... but before i purchased the policy, i came to my senses and stopped driving my street car at the track, and have a cheap, reliable, (slower then an e36 M3) track car with a roll cage. which i won't mind (as much) if i total.
