I've been using Redline 75W90 in my 95 M3 for several years, with good results as far as I can tell... - Rich

#3. Warped Rotors - from Jeffrey Stowe

Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 15:23:52 -0700 From: Jeffrey Stowe <jstowe@cisco.com> Subject: Warped Rotors Ahem.. hypothetically speaking :) If a rookie was to take his M3 to Thunderhill after not grasping the detailed braking dissertations provided on this list and then run his M3 in multiple run groups (sharing car with other driver) for multiple days and thusly ended up with warped rotors. . . . A) Is there any chance of pawning this off on the dealer as a warranty fix? B) What is the approximate cost of the replacing the rotors with the Euro rotors (or stock for that matter)? C) How much braking efficiency is lost with the warped rotors? Would it be safe to track the car again with the warped rotors? D) Is street driving with the rotor shimmy doing any collateral damage ie wheel bearing, calipers etc. . .? Thanks for the help. jeff 98 M3/4

#6. Shark injector and intake - from Jeffrey Stowe
Top
Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 15:43:43 -0700 From: Jeffrey Stowe <jstowe@cisco.com> Subject: Shark injector and intake I have just about saved up enough pennies for a shark injector and intake ( and maybe a system U exhaust). I am assuming the Intake is not California Smog legal. Correct? If not, would it be reasonable to just remove the intake and re-install the factory airbox every two years for smog inspection? Of course, this is a hypothetical question as I would never knowingly violate the smog regulations. I am assuming there are no smog issues with the shark code itself. thanks again for any insights. jeff 98 M3/4 - not sharked 93 M5 on the way - already sharked

Correct? I have a '97 M3/2, Sharked w/ Conforti intake, and it passed CA emissions with flying colors. YMMV. Haven't tried it with the System U exhaust installed, but I don't expect any different results. -Huntley '97 M3/2 with AO32R's still on

Chester, For what it's worth, when I was buying my helmet at Driving Impressions, I asked the guy about Bell, and they told me that for the past year or so, the quality of Bell helmets has gone down so much, that they had to stop selling them. Too many customers complaining. He even showed me one of the returned Bell helmets, and pointed out about 10 different flaws with it. At the time it sounded a little like a sales ploy to get me into a more expensive helmet but I guess your experience does confirm this (I ended up buying a $350 Bieffe Predator SA95 - a helmet I have been extremely happy with so far - very high quality construction and hardware and it's one of the lighter helmets) Driving Impressions is not a cheap place, but the guys there are very helpful (all of them are racers) They let me try on 5 different helmets, and they even had a scale so I could weigh them to compare. I must have spent like 2 hours there, and they didn't mind at all helping me out and answering millions of questions I had. -Adam Fila '95 M3 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chester Wong" <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmwmpower.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2000 2:42 PM Subject: [E36M3] Is my helmet defective? > Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 11:33:16 -0700 (PDT) > From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> > Subject: Is my helmet defective? > > Hi guys. When lowered, the car rattles and squeaks more (I'm still chasing annoying squeaks), but it will handle better. It will be a compromise, and only you can decide if it is what you want. Another alternative is not to lower it too much, say by using Euro M3 springs or adjustable coilovers set up on the high side. I originally lowered my car with H&R 29910s and Koni single adjustables, but later canned this setup because the roads in the NY, NJ area are too rough and I blew out the left front strut and upper strut bearings. If you live in an area with nice roads, then this obviously won't be an issue for you. Just a thought. Mark Kelly >-- >I am seriously considering the TC Kline Trackline >suspension package.
