The pad wear sensor light on the cluster will stay on continuously but will go out when you reinstall them. Tieing them back at the strut will keep the light on the cluster out and increase their life since they aren't being heated up above normal temperatures. To BMWs credit, they don't crumble during regular usage but I doubt BMW considered repeated removal for track events. #3. airbag light / seat belt sensor - from jbergstrom

Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 09:40:57 -0500 From: "jbergstrom" <john@intellectsys.com> Subject: airbag light / seat belt sensor >>>>If the airbag idiot light is on, the airbags should deploy in an accident, but only at the higher deployment speed. The airbags have 2 speeds of deployment, it's controlled by the seat belt sensor - if you're belted in, slow speed, else it's blast your face off. <<<< My airbag light goes on and off intermittently. I've had my mechanic reset it, but it still comes on at some point, he said the seat belt sensor needs to be replaced and "it's not cheap." I can live with the light, except I don't want that airbag going off so fast that it smashes my face in if I crash. (knockknock on wood!) Can anyone confirm that there are really 2 speeds of deployment, and that it is dependent on the airbag light being on or off? Also, how much did it cost anyone who had their seat belt sensor replaced, and/or is it a do-it-yourselfer? Thanks John '95 M3

#5. Autocross Brake Pads - from DiVincenti, A.J.
Top
Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 10:31:03 -0500 From: "DiVincenti, A.J." <ADiVin@lsusd.lsuhsc.edu> Subject: Autocross Brake Pads I know there has been a lot of discussion about brake pads for the track, but for autocross does anyone have recommendations for a pad that is better than stock for autocross. Bob Tunnell uses Hawk HP Plus so that's what I'm leaning towards at the moment. Any opinions would be appreciated. AJDiVincenti 95 M3

Perhaps one of our 'trackers? A lot of people on this list have complained of squealing when installed on their Ms after a few K. I have had them on the iX and so far (crossed-fingers) the are great. I also used the BMW brand anti-squeal shown here... http://www.unofficialbmw.com/e36/brakes/e36_changing_brake_pads.html when I installed them. I'm not sure if this stuff is the reason for my quiet brakes. :) Thanks to the fellow who organized our list discount! HTH. I'm running them on my wife's 97 528i. They are good pads, stop well. The first few months they didn't squeal, but then gradually got worse. Car squeals like a stuck pig now. Wife doesn't like it. Gotta find some of the shim material to put between the pad backing plate and mounting hardware. I'm not aware of any no-squeal guarantee. - Rich

#10. suspension upgrade - from Ed Tang

Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 09:50:49 -0700 (PDT) From: Ed Tang <etangf1@yahoo.com> Subject: suspension upgrade Hello all, Thank you for the responses to the suspension upgrade issue. I have decided that being a Chicago commuter car, the M will keep the stock springs and shocks. I will only install the UUC sway bars (now that I have the new front links) with the reinforced rear links. I guess the car's low enough. The rear shock mounts are being installed as I write so hopefully that'll be the last of my upgrades. Ed Tang 95 Cosmos M3 Sharked (intake & chip), x-brace, UUC BLSS, Barbarian, soon to be installed SwayBarbarian, SSR Integral w/Yoko A032R, BMP RSM, Castrol Syntec (choice of Williams F1) and of course, Schroth harnesses and JTD camera mount. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
