Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 16:03:46 EDT From: DVagios@aol.com Subject: My new JTD Strut Brace I just purchased and installed the new JTD strut brace with carbon fiber insert caps. I have a 99 M3 convertible (dakar) and as you all know they have bad cowl shake and just don't feel as tight as the coupes do. Not that I'm complaining, but it's true. The new JT brace not only looks beautiful, but is incredibly functional. I own an exclusive BMW body shop in westchester NY and I drive a lot of BMW's and pretty much know the chassis feel of almost any BMW. I recommend it highly if you are looking for serious improvements on your M. Later Dimitri

Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 16:18:23 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: More JTD Tranny Brace My favorite part of having the JTD tranny brace is the resonance, and accompanying rumble, that goes through the car at 3,800 RPM on deceleration. You would swear that you are driving a race car. At first, I thought about putting the stock brace with 320i mounts back in but I changed my mind about 1 hour later and now just love it. It is really strange to ride in a normal M3 because it is soo much smoother. -Wayne

Very high friction level even at cold temperatures. No dust or squeal." Also... "What is the difference between the R-4 and the R-4S? The difference between the R-4 and R-4S pad is the R-4 has a higher friction level and will withstand higher temperatures than the R-4S. Also the R-4 was designed for racing use, if driven on the street you may experience some dust and or squeal. The R-4S is designed for street and limited track use. It is a serious high performance highway pad with high friction levels and is designed for driver's school, and light track events. R-4S was designed to produce no squeal and less dust than OE pads." Take it for what it is worth. I guess their design fell a little short. I will find out when I put them on my car (with plastilube behind them). Regards, Rich

Not dangerous, but could cost you more if you have an accident driving solo and both bags deploy. While many of us have the Peake Research tool developed with Jim Conforti, as far as I know it doesn't reset airbag lights. That's a shame too. But anyway, many 3rd party repair facilities have more advanced diagnostic and reset tools made by Snap-on and others. Here is my caution: **** Many of these tools have a selection to clear all codes and reset all service indicators **** Punch this selection and you could cost yourself serious $$. I had this recently happen to me accidentally at ProParts when they were troubleshooting a reassembly error on my seatbelt sensors. I was due for Inspection II and all of my lights got reset. As ubelievable as this will sound, I have a good relationship with the dealer and they did the Inspection II service and a bunch of other stuff on my word alone. This is especially lucky because I drive my car mostly on the track so the Inspection II was due with a measly 31K miles on it. not the normal 40K which is beyond the warranty period. We all know what turds the dealers can be and I could have easily had this service denied and understandably so. The lights would never have gone to service again for years to come and I would have missed out on this service under the maintenance agreement. So if you have airbag and other miscellaneous indicators reset at 3rd party shops, heads up. They can make an honest mistake that could cost you money. Make sure you alert them to your concerns. Actually another one of those National types, Mark Sipe sez he uses Carbotech Panthers up front and Green-kelated in the rear. I wouldn't mind a little brake bias using diff'nt pads so I'm going to order some Carbotech Panthers for the front and keep my street Pagids in the rear. You guys should see some crazy in a Civic here in Detroa that uses R compound tires in the front and streets in the rear to rotate the old Honda.
