Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 16:52:28 GMT From: "karen yang" <karen_y@hotmail.com> Subject: Looking for mini M3s Hi Everyone - I'm looking for 2 miniature E36 M3's, 1:43, any color (they'll be painted). BMW doesn't seem to carry this size, so I'm wondering if any other distributor carried them, and if any of you managed to get your hands on one - I can't find any - I've tried ebay, BMW dealers, and local die cast shops. If you're willing to part with yours, please let me know. I have a 1:18 (yellow, and I think it has the '95 rims - will need to look to confirm) that I'd be willing to trade or just give you, if you want it. The minis will be put to good use, then will join some other E36 M3 mini buddies up on a bookshelf...... Other M3 content - some idiot thought it would be fun to put a big dent in my hood during the 49'ers game at Candlestick/3Com park this past Friday....heartbreaking.... and I don't even LIKE football.... TIA - Karen _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 11:53:37 -0500 From: "George M. Kofman" <sdg2@execpc.com> Subject: 1997 M3/4 suspension mods ? Folks; After spending some more time at the limit behind the wheel of my M3 at Road America, I am now considering some suspension mods. It has been suggested to me to just upgrade the sway bars and leave shocks/springs stock. Any thoughts ? I am currently running Yoko A032R's on 17x7.5 rims and having blistered my left front yesterday am in the process of ordering 4 more. Should I consider 18's or stick to 17's ? BTW - I do not want to sink too much $$$ into this project as I may be getting a different ride soon. PLEASE CC: george@oncontact.com when replying to the digest. TIA GMK '97 M3/4; x-brace; PF90's ; A032R's for track, AVS Sport for street; Schroth Rallye-3

Sony (perhaps others) makes an electronic input selector with two pairs of RCA inputs, and one RCA output. It automatically selects an input when signal appears on it (not sure what the threshold signal is, but above normal dark noise level). It's pretty clever - if it selects one input and signal later appears on the second, it waits until the first goes quiet to switch over. It might get confused by song breaks, but if there's only one source going at a time it should be OK. Anyway, if the MP3 system has a proper line level and a volume control, you could use this to switch between it and the head unit. I don't remember the part # but it can't be hard to find. Cost was $50 a few years ago. Again, apologies for the WOB. andy r.

I have heard that Sikkens and Standox are good paints are there any others to consider? thanks, Rob- car con chips

#7. k-mac camber plates - from Kit Wetzler

Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 10:55:23 -0700 From: Kit Wetzler <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: k-mac camber plates I went to the alignment shop yesterday and found that my home alignment (push the plates all the way in and all the way back for max camber/caster) got me a decent amount of caster, but Big Camber... -4 degrees. Perfect for the track, but not too great on tire life... So... does anyone have any suggestions for marking the K-macs? I'd like to go to the track, loosen the bolts, and get Lots of Camber. Then, when I'm done, put them back at -2 degrees (my currect street alignment) and drive home. I suspect that toe goes out with more camber, due to the M3 having leading link steering, but let me know if that is in correct. getting Big Camber, but lots of toe in, is going to make for a miserable track day... [but look how great it tracks down the straights!] -kit 97 m3/4 w/stuff

[but look how great it tracks down the straights!] if you're gonna move the plates back and forth you'll HAVE to change the toe as well. especially if you're changing camber by 2 degrees. it's easy to move the tie rods. and easier to mark them, and do it accurately, then it is to be accurate with the plates. i eventually gave up on the idea of moveing the plates back and forth. it's just too hard to be accurate, and i'd rather have an accurate setting that was non adjustible, rather then haveing the possibility of the settings being "wrong". _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. It has been suggested > to me to just upgrade the sway bars and leave shocks/springs stock. Any > thoughts ? Hi George, I just upgraded the sway bars on my car, '98 M3/4, and I really like this upgrade. They reduced the body roll of the car without noticeably affecting the day-to-day ride quality. I do quite a few drivers schools/track events with this car, as well as commute ~100 miles each day. > I am currently running Yoko A032R's on 17x7.5 rims and having blistered my > left front yesterday am in the process of ordering 4 more. Sounds like the sway bars might be the way to go - I would think that they would be less expensive than doing the suspension(?). Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - bunch o'stuff, bunch o'miles, bunch o'fun :-)

All together now: improve the driver :-) Join the BMW CCA and sign up for your local chapter's driver schools. Depending on the chapter, the schools will cost $300-$500 (possibly more for some tracks - Hi Mark! :-)) for the weekend, and you'll get great instruction and learn more about your car and how to drive it than you could anywhere else, IMO. > I am currently planning to do the BMW Motorsport X-brace and the > strut tower > brace. I have read pretty controversial statements on several web > site about > the strut tower braces. Should you go that route, for the '95 M3, the BMW Motorsport strut brace is the best. > What else should I plan on upgrading? I'll reiterate Mark's comment: for an improvement in day-to-day drivability, the JimC chip is well worth the money. Cheers, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4
