I know that this isn't M3 related (or BMW for that matter) but I was wondering if somebody could point me in the direction of a Porsche board (specifically 911) similar to this (serious & knowledgeable enthusiasts I mean). You can respond directly to me to avoid non-BMW related items being posted. Thanks in advance. Luis '95M3 '00 RC51

#5. Jacking up a 95 M3 - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Fri, 1 Sep 2000 10:06:28 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Jacking up a 95 M3 Bora, I do one of two things. I either use Steve D's jack plate to get one front corner of my car high enough to put one jack stand under and then jack it up from the front cross member to place the front on both jack stands. I then spin around to the back and jack from the rear axle carrier and place my two other stands under the rear. (http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/tools/all_jacking_and_supporting_your_car. html) (http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/tools/all_jack_it_up_with_jackplate.html) Or, I also have a rudimentary board (much less elaborate than Ron's for now) I will drive one corner up onto and it is enough for me to sneak my jack under the front to the front cross member. http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/tools/all_jacking_lowered_cars.html One more thing. I would recommend using four stands. Two stands seems much too precarious to me every time I have done it or seen it done. As you can see from the above websites, Ron Stygar is the "king of jacking cars". Lastly, I am currently working on something to help everyone put their cars (E36 models first) up on jack stands. The prototypes are done and I will pick them up this weekend. Regards, Rich 95 M3

#6. [E36M3] Inspection II Suggestions? - from twisty M3

Date: Fri, 01 Sep 2000 07:30:35 PDT From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] Inspection II Suggestions? Hello all, Getting ready to schedule my Inspection II (comfortably under 36k/freebie, thank god) and my S.A. has agreed to do a brake flush under the free warranty also. Aside from the oil services, etc., I can't seem to find anything else (extra) that should be covered under this... Any thing I might be over looking? Suggestions? Also, even though the factory fluid would be free, is it worth considering the ATE Super Blue brake fluid instead? For that matter, at this many miles (32k) is it worth changing/flushing the fluid at all... would it be worthwhile to have stainless steel lines done? I've had minimal track time so far but plan on doing much more and I spend plenty of time on the canyon roads. Thanks, as always, for any advice. Jonathan L. #7. Contact info for M&R or Sam McCleary? - from Dave Spragg
Top
Date: Fri, 1 Sep 2000 12:50:18 -0400 From: "Dave Spragg" <dspragg@mediaone.net> Subject: Contact info for M&R or Sam McCleary? Hi All, I have been running around like a nut for a few days. A friend and I got our first dedicated track car and I had a mechanical problem with it at Watkins Glen this week. IN the course of trying to get a trailer ride home I was shown a really neat piece of hardware by Sam McCleary who used to compete with a LTW in the northeast and elsewhere. The part is called a t-hook and is the hottest ticket I have seen for securing an E36 to any kind of trailer. You pop off the hockey pucks underneath, the "t" part slips into the oval openings, then you attach the tie down strap hooks to the eyelet part of the piece that hangs below the "t". Sam said he got his from M&R, I did some searching on the web but didn't pull anything up. When I showed one of the around to E36 folks with trailers (whom I was hoping to bum some extra straps from) they were all VERY interested. If you haven't done tire straps in the rain you won't know where I am coming from. ;) I need contact info for Sam or for M&R. Once I figure out how to obtain them I will spread the word here. Thanks, Dave Spragg dave@spragg.com 99 M3 Sharked 92 330is supercharged, sharked, group-n'd, etc... etc... (temporarily not tearing up the track)

For the '95 model, you really have two Jim Conforti chip design options available to you: OPTION 1: standard JC chip OPTION 2: European HFM (about 93 mm dia) to replace US HFM (about 76 mm from memory) (allows much more airflow...I think Turner says 40%) Euro HFM Adapter modified JC chip for the Euro HFM Don't hold me to this, but from memory I think Option 1 gives you about 20-25 HP more across most of your RPM/torque band, and Option 2 gives you about 35-38 HP more across most of your band. The parts for the 2nd option can best be seen on www.turnermotorsport.com ... specifically http://www.turnermotorsport.com/catalog/intake.htm and is $899 in one flavor of airbox and $1095 for another flavor. Search the archives for extensive discussions of the airboxes if you want more on this... Main point I want to make is, if you drop $250 for a chip now, you might wish you spent $640 more later for the additional HP the Euro HFM can give you. Then you'll kick yourself hard because you'll have to buy ANOTHER CHIP because the old (standard JC chip) one won't work with the Euro HFM setup, which requires a chip just for it (the voltage outputs from the Euro HFM are different from the US HFM at various air flow measurement settings.) Congrats on buying the best model year M3 made! - Skip Abdoul Aziz Wane wrote: > > Date: Fri, 01 Sep 2000 09:40:10 -0400 > From: Abdoul Aziz Wane <abdoul@afriquenet.com> > Subject: Re: Who makes the best chip > > As I said before! Hey Dave: You may want to knock on Mr. Bob Tunnels' eddress (BobTunnell@aol.com). He's the person I, and many others on this list, bought them from. If you ask nice maybe he'll sell you some too...... They were very reasonable as I remember (about $50). Using T-hooks is the only BMW-recommended method for trailering your car. Ok... so I there are plenty of you out there using these. :) Thanks to John Van Houten, Peter Reinhart, and Paul Franz! Bob Tunnell at http://www.tunnellracing.com/ has them and specifically they are located at http://www.tunnellracing.com/thookTN.html. Bob works for TC Kline so this may be the same as buying from them. In any case I looked at TC Kline's web page and couldn't find them listed but I am told they sell them. Paul also mentioned they can be obtained from Northern Hydraulics as part of the automotive part section it is standard towing equipment. Man this list rules!! Thanks Suzy!!!!
