Herbert Hopp is convinced: "The SMG combines absolute comfort and sports gear-change with the highest level of operation safety. Anyone who has driven with it will not want to do without it." i've heard the SMG was more popular with consumers than it was with the press in europe, much like the E36 M3 was... i'll pass, thanks. daanesh 95 M3 (which i was glad to get back into, even after spending the weekend driving our E39 M5) ___________________________________________________________ Get a sneak preview of the new MSN: http://preview.msn.com/

Mostly becuase >of constantly high slip angles and greater >acceleration. A set of Hoosiers, for example, only >lasts about 100 Runs at the most. perspective is a funny thing. 100 runs seems like forever. hoosiers last me 12 runs at the most. (that's a race weekend and a half (if i do two race groups)) and they're really only good for 8. (one weekend of racing) and they last even less if you "abuse them" with large slip angles or overheat them. so... 100 runs seems like forever. ;-) if i were less lazy i'd do some math to figure out miles. maybe 100 autocross runs is about the same number of miles as 12 road course runs? anyone here want to help me with some math? i can't even figure that 30*100 = 3000. ;-P _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Date: Tue, 05 Sep 2000 12:59:24 PDT From: "david tow" <david_tow@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: Which M3 Year is best? Aren't cars getting heavier and heavier? I recall the last E36 M3 (1998 model?) tested in Car and Driver magazine against the Audi S4 took more than 6 seconds to reach 60 mph. I personally like cars with less powered features, such as powered seats, etc... That makes the 95 M3s lighter and therefore more attractive to me. In addition, the engine of the 3.0 seems to be a little smoother and sweeter, as the R & T article indicated correctly. I am just more of a purist. Neither their tech support line or my local BMW dealer could help me figure why it wasn't working. The only good thing was that returning it was easy, minus the 25% restock fee :-(. -Scott ----Original Message Follows---- From: Dave2664@aol.com Reply-To: Dave2664@aol.com To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmwmpower.com> Subject: [E36M3] Re:stellar alarm Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 13:08:28 -0500 Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 14:04:02 EDT From: Dave2664@aol.com Subject: Re:stellar alarm I purchased this alarm as well (the stx-c stellar) and had nothing but problems. Keith, Consumer Reports rated the 95 E36's as the "most reliable" among all E36's... Something to keep in mind... and also note that C.R. is a very *impartial* source, whereas many of the R&T and C&D staff look harder for more personal preferences rather than those of the general public. >Date: Sun, 3 Sep 2000 03:49:24 -0700 >From: "Keith Tsang" <ktsang1@uclink4.berkeley.edu> >Subject: Which M3 Year is best? > >Hello, I'm in the market for a used M3 and was wondering which year M3 is >the best. They're great. The ones they had are made by Snap On. I think Snap On parts are really really pricey though, if I'm not mistaken. Check with your local Snap On dealer. >>> <MDadgar@handspring.com> 09/05/00 05:08PM >>> Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 14:02:21 -0700 From: MDadgar@handspring.com Subject: Torque Stick? (95s are older, maybe on 10 years we'll see that all M3s are just as prone to head warping as 95s?) but the others things are not. i'd NEVER expect the first year of a car to be the "most reliable". now... i know C.R. is impartial. and that it's all based on statistics. but maybe the numbers are just not all in for the later years? if the numbers show that 95 M3s are the most reliable M3 in ten years, (after they've pretty much all come and gone, and numbers are totalled up) i'll eat this computer i'm typing on. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 17:47:41 EDT From: JSDONE@aol.com Subject: Archive find question? I have enjoyed the e36 digest totally and now I must ask the loyal following to help me use the digest even more. I'm still having problems with my electric top operation and tried last night to go into the archives to find out how much problems have been listed on the digest. I could not find the link on problems with tops.. I know it's simply because I did not know how to get the research material.. Any help would be appreciated... Regards, John (98 M3 convertable.
