(no laughing) and it's about 3 miles... so that's... think... (i hate math, i hoped someone would do this for me)... where's the calculator... about 25 miles per session. so at 8-12 sessions, that's 200-300 miles for a set of hoosiers. that means they last longer for racing then for autocrossing. wierd... P.S. are you using the hoosier autocross compound? they are alot softer yes? i wonder how long the road race compound would last for autocrossing? the autocross compound would proabbly last about 20 miles under road race conditions. ;-P _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. #6. Intermittant cutout - from Matt Henson

The Symptom: Usually at low speeds the engine will suddenly lose power. After about 1 second it will either regain power or, if it stalled bad enough to stop the car, start right back up. Sometimes it will go for a week but then have 3 or 4 in a row. Then be fine again. It doesn't appear to be related to bumpy roads. I'm not sure if the Tach drops immiedietly but I suspect it does. Sounds like a lose connection but where? Any ideas? Thanks, Matt __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! #7. Convertible tops and E36s, consumer reports and E36s - from Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com

Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 15:22:40 -0700 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: Convertible tops and E36s, consumer reports and E36s John; My guess is you are going to get very little information on this list regarding convertible tops because a good proportion of the readers and participants on this list use their E36 M3s on the track where usually convertibles are not allowed by some clubs (the BMW CCA for example) unless a specific roll cage is installed. And, we recognize that for a performance car it is better to start with a chassis as it was built to be stiff, that is in our specific case, the M3 was designed to be stiff with the roof still on. Doesn't mean the convertible is not also a great car, just not the basis for heavy suspension or other stiffening modifications. You might try one of the other E36 lists for that information as I would guess there would be a lot more convertible participants on those lists. Try www.bimmer.org for some E36 banter that is at times informational. Or, the uuc list at: http://www.bubbaclub.com/BMWUUCDIGEST and join for some interesting, sometimes irreverent, banter about all BMWs. Sean; The consumer reports is generic E36 evaluation. Not specific to E36 M3s as far as their reliability assessment is concerned. Now they could get enough bad reliability evaluations if enough of the owners of E36 M3s mailed in their ballots and skewed the results I suppose. But, I somehow doubt that will happen. Marc 1995 M3 LTW reliable so far for a weekend/track car

#8. 95 M3 Running rich, any ideas? - from Brent91NSX@aol.com

Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 18:27:47 EDT From: Brent91NSX@aol.com Subject: 95 M3 Running rich, any ideas? Hi all, My 95 M3 is running rich. It has since I purchased it I believe (about 5-6 months ago). There is a slight gas smell when parking in the garage and sometimes permeating around the car at stoplights. It is less noticeable in the open air. Also, when someone was following me (a friend) and I shifted from 4th to 2nd and accelerated rapidly he noticed white smoke coming out the exhaust. In another instance, with someone following me, they noticed a gas smell when I was on the accelerator. I am unsure if my performance is on par with other M3's so I don't know if thats lacking although it is pretty quick. = ) *grin* Any ideas or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brent Parks 95 M3 runnin fumes

Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2000 15:45:34 -0700 (PDT) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Race Tires Yes I think that most AutoXers use the AutoX compound. The RR compound would surely last longer. I run Kuhmos. I'm really not surprised that AutoX is tougher on the tires. You're at lower speeds so people tend to push harder. Few road courses have you at full slip angles for the whole track. Lots of AutoX racers push a little too hard; spinouts, burnouts, etc. I'm not saying that Road racers don't push tires, it's just that when you're on the track you typically leave a little slip angle in reserve, just in case. Your life may depend on it. Actually, I suspect that minute for minute, road racing is much less stressful on the whole car that AutoX. Impacts notwithstanding. When was the last time you dropped the clutch to start a road race? How about 5 in 1 day? How often are you on the ABS? How often do you let it bounce off the limiter for a few seconds because the gear change isn't worth it? Road courses can definatly be more wearing on the brakes and could potentially make the engine run hotter but no more so than you would if you could autocross continuously. YMMV, Matt --- Sean Hester <seanh_race@hotmail.com> wrote: > Date: Tue, 05 Sep 2000 15:22:09 PDT > From: "Sean Hester" <seanh_race@hotmail.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Race Tires > > >Sean, > >100 AutoX runs is maybe 50 Miles.
