Andy, Have you made sure the fan shroud was cut so the fan has enough clearance? I've never heard this as a problem before let alone fans breaking and turning into pieces. #3. Supercharger and fan blade clearance problem - from Paul Elliott

I've had mine for about 9 mos now, and not a hint of what you're referring to, so all I can say is that with the Dinan parts, and a proper installation, this problem is a non-problem. _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <20000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift Kit and clutch stop; Skaags pedals

#4. Anyone ever heard of Spearco? - from Paul Elliott

Date: Wed, 6 Sep 2000 23:51:53 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: Anyone ever heard of Spearco? I've recently heard from someone from Spearco, which is a company which makes and sells intercooler and water injection solutions, mostly for VWs ........They have a water injection system they sell for bout $200, which they claim boosts power on a VW VR6 car by 22 hp on the dyno ...This is what the kit includes: * Compact .4 gallon aluminum reservoir with three mounting positions for universal placement in the engine compartment * Injects water upstream or downstream of the turbocharger/supercharger * Pump is controlled by an adjustable, O.E. quality pressure switch * Kit includes 3 different size, specially designed injection nozzles." He says they're about to install one on an M3, and told me he'd report back the results of testing....Does anybody know anything about this company? _____________________________ Paul Elliott '99 Alpine White M3; <20000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; Rotex pads; Dinan Stage II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift Kit and clutch stop; Skaags pedals

#5. Stumbly Idle? - from Paul England

Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2000 01:02:59 -0400 From: "Paul England" <ettsn@mindspring.com> Subject: Stumbly Idle? I have a 97 M3/2 with 40k on the clock. Here recently, when I start her up first thing in the AM, it runs a bit stumbly. Especially when the AC compressor kicks in. Idle is rough for a few seconds, and the car needs to be revved to keep from stalling in gear. Two minutes later, it's fine and remains so for the rest of the day. Even if I let it sit for several hours. Any ideas? Maybe the oil is too viscous and all down in the pan after sitting all night? It is Mobil1, but I forgot what weight. It still looks clean and it's dead in the middle of the 'full' mark on the dipstick. Maybe time for new plugs? I thought fuel filter, but why is it only first thing in the AM? Anybody else have this happen? TIA! -Paul England

#6. Sold M3, bought 330ci - from NASIEG@aol.com
Top
Date: Thu, 7 Sep 2000 01:12:51 EDT From: NASIEG@aol.com Subject: Sold M3, bought 330ci Two weeks ago I sold my E36 M3. It was the best car I ever owned and I had a lot of fun with it. The most amazing thing about it was that it fit like a glove and I felt instantly like a hero driving it. It's no secret, it is one of the best cars of our time. I was perfectly happy with it and could have lived with it for a long time, but since I live in a congested area I decided I need an automatic to cope with the traffic. I also figured it would be a good time to sell, the resale value was good, the free maintenance had expired and there wasn't much left on the warranty. I was hoping that an e46 M3 be in my garage by now, but I really got tired of waiting around for one. So the logical choice seemed to be the new 330ci. Since two weeks I'm the proud owner of a a silver 330ci with steptronic. I'm happy with it so far. It's definitely more luxurious and more refined then the old M3. I've read some stuff on this list that people were disappointed with the new 3-series in general, because it's too quiet, too isolated and the steering feels too lite. All those statements maybe true, but once you get used to it you'll notice that the e46 still performs like a BMW. When I first drove it I thought it felt really heavy and was worried that it wouldn't handle all that good, and yes the steering dose feel a bit lite on center, but don't judge the car from one test drive, because it's better then you think. Give it a week or two and you'll notice that the 330 is very close to the e36 M3 in performance and worlds ahead in luxury. I think every new generation of the 3 series gets more refined and in the beginning a lot of the BMW enthusiasts need some time to adjust to the new models, but every new model is better then the previous. We probably should wait for the new M3 in order to make a fair comparison to the e36 M3, but the new 330 already comes close. I probably wont subscribe to this digest much longer since I don't own an M3 anymore but I like to thank Suzy for keeping this list going over the last few years and all the fellow bimmer heads that have helped with performance upgrades and advice. I miss having the "M" on the trunk, and don't like being just a "regular" BMW owner, but maybe someday I'll get an other "M". Happy MMMMMotoring. Norman Siegenthaler

Paul, A bunch of DSM owners got together on a group purchase of the Spearco WI kit. They started an e-mail group at e-groups. You can still join and read their messages. I reall all of them (several hundred). The conclusion? Spearco's system sucks. The only people who ended up with acceptable results basically removed all of the Spearco stuff except the resevoir. They do, however, make good intercoolers. -Matt --- Paul Elliott <pelliott@rcn.com> wrote: > Date: Wed, 6 Sep 2000 23:51:53 -0400 > From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> > Subject: Anyone ever heard of Spearco? > > I've recently heard from someone from Spearco, which > is a company which > makes and sells intercooler and water injection > solutions, mostly for VWs > .......They have a water injection system they sell > for bout $200, which > they claim boosts power on a VW VR6 car by 22 hp on > the dyno ...This is what > the kit includes: > > * Compact .4 gallon aluminum reservoir with three > mounting positions > for universal placement in the engine compartment > > * Injects water upstream or downstream of the > turbocharger/supercharger > > * Pump is controlled by an adjustable, O.E. quality > pressure switch > > * Kit includes 3 different size, specially designed > injection > nozzles." > > > He says they're about to install one on an M3, and > told me he'd report back > the results of testing....Does anybody know anything > about this company? > _____________________________ > Paul Elliott > '99 Alpine White M3; <20000 mi; Forged M dbl-spokes; > Rotex pads; Dinan Stage > II Supercharger; Stygar Short Shift Kit and clutch > stop; Skaags pedals > > > > ************************************************************* > List Commands > UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you > from the mailing list. > ************************************************************* > > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? At max volume the radio/CD is barely audible. All of the speakers seem to be working when I adjust fade and balance. When I turn off the head unit the display blinks on and off but when the unit is on it functions normally.
