#1. Euro Mirror - from Shawn Roberts

Date: Fri, 08 Sep 2000 08:48:57 -0400 From: "Shawn Roberts" <shawn.roberts@c-s-p.com> Subject: Euro Mirror I received and installed my Euro mirror yesterday. Many thanks to Chester for organizing the GP, scrutinizing the glass, and packing it so well. I got a taste of the wide-angle lens driving Jim E.'s car a couple of weeks ago and found it to be a much needed improvement for my M3 convertible. Gone are the days of re-adjusting my mirror every time the top goes up and down.. -Shawn '99 Dakar M3 ragtop - more Euro and more Dakar all the time

#5. RE: (Lincoln floor jacks (was OTC floor jack for M3 usage) - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Fri, 8 Sep 2000 10:31:20 -0400 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: RE: (Lincoln floor jacks (was OTC floor jack for M3 usage) Neil said >I own two of the Lincoln Model USA 2000 floor jacks. Both are USA made, and both have 2 piece handles. Neil, When did you buy them, from where, and when were they produced??? * A&I Supply $299 - A&I sells the Taiwanese made model. The price used to be $288 for U.S.A. made model which they no longer have available. * Harbor Freight $299 - Harbor Freight still has the Taiwanese made models. * Pep Boys $250 - Pep Boys sells the USA 2000 Eagle Series which does not have the flanged sides and is not quite as strong as the W93642 model and only comes with a three-year warranty. Recently, Pep Boys raised the price to $250 from $199 and I have had difficulty tracking down one as they are not readily available. These are made in Taiwan even though they say USA 2000 on them and made in the USA. * Costco $160 - Costco's floor jack is similar to the Eagle Series which is sold at Pep Boys. Just because yours say they are USA made does it mean they really are made in the USA. They even kept the same part number for that matter (W93642) for the Taiwan model. If you do not believe me, ask someone at Otto Service (http://www.hyjacks.com/). None of the two piece handled jacks were made in the USA even though they do say made in the USA. It is a new marketing program of Lincoln. Continue to tell people they are made in the USA and they may believe you ;-) Check this out as well (http://www.hyjacks.com/H314.HTM) I could be wrong. Someone may have swapped your handles with those made in Taiwan. But I doubt it. No connection to any of the above companies, vendors, etc. and I know way more than I ever wanted to about this subject after organizing the Group Purchase. Regards, Rich

#6. EBC brake pad tech note - from Ted Telesky
Top
Date: Fri, 8 Sep 2000 11:00:45 -0400 From: Ted Telesky <TTelesky@compuserve.com> Subject: EBC brake pad tech note Below is a posting from another message board from EBC about their greenstuff and redstuff brake pads. Also, there seems to have been a few people complaining about warped rotors and brake noise. My greenstuff pads have about 1000 miles on them and they still make way too much noise.... and I am concerned about the new rotors getting warped. One person said his dealer (for the pads) swapped them for free for red pads. Anyways, I didn't know if this appeared on our board.... Ted - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Recent experiences in heavier models of the below cars encourage us to recommend EBC Red Grade pads for the following models: M3/M5 and other models above 2.5 liter using the 689 design (i.e. Green Part no. DP2689 now should be switched to DP3689 on the cars listed above). EBC Part nos. DP3753 should be used for 528 models and larger in engine size in place of the listed DP2689 Green pad. Unitl now we have been recommending only Green for street use and Red for trackday use. After extensive evaluations over a cumulative 150,000 driving street miles we feel quite confident that the Red grades can be used in street applications on the above vehicles with excellent feedback. Due to the higher durability of the EBC Red grade the dust reduction is still a significant benefit. In spite of the slightly higher price point of Red grade we feel this is money well spent on this kind and size of vehicle. EBC Technical Dept.

#7. Knock Sensor #2, - from Richard Biscevic

Date: Fri, 08 Sep 2000 09:04:13 -0700 From: Richard Biscevic <biscevic@pacbell.net> Subject: Knock Sensor #2, All- A couple weeks ago, the DME registered fault code 1226; the #2 knock sensor. I took the car into an independent shop and they replaced the knock sensor. After running the car on the track last Tuesday, I checked the fault codes again, and the same code came up... 1226. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any hints as to where to look if the fault sensor itself is actually working? Thanks, Rich

Apperantly the Knock sensors are very sensitive to torque. If they were installed with the wrong torque then they set a light. I didn't accuratly torque mine down so that's probably my problem. I actually tested my sensors by hooking them up to an O'scope to make sure that they were returning a signal. Let me know if you find any more info. -Matt --- Richard Biscevic <biscevic@pacbell.net> wrote: > Date: Fri, 08 Sep 2000 09:04:13 -0700 > From: Richard Biscevic <biscevic@pacbell.net> > Subject: Knock Sensor #2, > > All- > > A couple weeks ago, the DME registered fault code > 1226; the #2 knock > sensor. Replaced last week have not seen the check engine light since and also the ECU reads 1444 (no fault codes). I presume that my mechanic torqued them to factory specs.
