Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 02:30:01 EDT From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Any Solution to Fuel Starvation? Jonathan and Rich ask about fuel starvation at the track: I don't know about it causing INTERNAL damage, but it can cause a lot of EXTERNAL damage - like totaling your car! We all know what Lift Throttle Oversteer is? It occurs in a corner if you reduce the throttle too abruptly. Weight shifts to the front wheels much like applying the brakes. As a result, the rear wheels have less weight and the back end can come around, i.e., oversteers. Fuel starvation is the worst form of Lift Throttle Oversteer. You are not just "reducing" the throttle, it is completely cut off! Your rear wheels want to lock up, they have to turn over the dead engine. And there is nothing you can do about it! When it happens, mentally you know you need to apply more gas, but you could floor the gas pedal and it won't do a bit of good. There is no gas available. I had the pleasure of spinning off backwards at 90 mph into a mud bog at Texas World Speedway. It ripped every plastic body part off my M3 - under engine shroud, both corner triangle pieces, both front fender liners, one side skirt, rear valence. Cost about $800. Going off a track backwards can get very costly in a hurry. Someday I will install a second fuel pump. I'm not going to have it happen again. Until then, I do (and recommend) buy gas at the track even if it does cost $5 per gallon. That is a lot cheaper than totaling your M3. I doubt if the second fuel pump would be legal in most races. However, I don't plan to be doing any sanctioned racing with my M3. #2. BBS Wheel wrench - from Rob Hatrak

It is a hollow black box with a mold on one side that fits over the wheel cap. The plastic is very flimsy and easily damaged. I have stripped/broken my sixth one this weekend, and need to order yet another one as my backup (Since they are so cheap [quality, not price], I always have two on hand). Does anyone else that has RCs on their car share my frustration? Are there any better wrenches out there for this application? Thanks in advance, Rob 95 M3 Sin City Chapter

#3. 95 M3: AC switches reversed? - from Rob Hatrak

Date: Mon, 11 Sep 2000 23:43:33 -0700 From: "Rob Hatrak" <Hatrak@ix.netcom.com> Subject: 95 M3: AC switches reversed? I just noticed that the AC switches seem to be reversed on my car. For example, the recirc. button changes the vents, but also turns the compressor on and off. The other button (the compressor on/off) does nothing except turn on/off the little green light. The compressor stays on no matter what mode this switch is in. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on with my car? If I can't figure it out, I plan to head to the dealer on Saturday. Thanks in advance, Rob 95 M3 Sin City Chapter

I just had a *minor* MVA... driver side front control arm is messed up, sway bar link may need to be replaced, etc. etc. etc... This'll be the 2d time this year where my car has had to have body work done to it... I've always heard that a car never drives the same after an MVA, big or small... Assuming that this is true, would it be wise to sell it now? It's a 96 with 45 clicks...

#7. 2000 M5 for Sale - from Ron Buchalski
Top
Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 13:53:53 GMT From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: 2000 M5 for Sale [cross-posting to cover an interested audience...] BMW Excluservice, Rockville, MD (301-231-5400) has a 2000 M5 for sale. It has 1500 miles on it, and is painted in a custom light blue (I don't know what the color is called, but it's a blue-silver metallic), and two-tone leather seats (dark gray with light gray center sections). Michelin Pilot Sports, navigation system, yadda yadda... Asking $79k. If interested, call and ask to speak with Lothar (the owner). BTW, Lothar is also an authorized BMW new car dealer, and has access to the BMW Individual program. So, if you want to order a custom E46 M3, or any car in BMW's line, give him a call. A few years back he custom ordered a Daytona Violet 530iT, and I've seen several Individual E36 M3s and E34 5-series cars. -rb (M5 spotted by my car-aware 11-year-old son) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. #8. Driving after an MVA - from Wayne Miller

Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 11:10:14 -0400 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: Driving after an MVA As most of you know, just about the entire front of my car was damaged in an "incident" at a DE event last year. There was a little suspension damage (the lower control arm was bent) but just about everything else was replaced, including everything on the left front (shock tower, fender, etc.). You absolutely can't tell by driving the car that there was ever anything wrong with it - I even got FTD at the most recent NJBMWCCA autocross (by .3 seconds which is a lot for autocrossing). I have had other people drive the car and there just isn't any indication. I guess that it all depends on who does the work on the car. -Wayne
