For example, the recirc. button changes the vents, but also turns the compressor on and off. The other button (the compressor on/off) does nothing except turn on/off the little green light. The compressor stays on no matter what mode this switch is in. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on with my car? If I can't figure it out, I plan to head to the dealer on Saturday. #4. Gains with 96+ exhaust manifold on 95 - from Tommymats@aol.com

Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 13:34:13 EDT From: Tommymats@aol.com Subject: Gains with 96+ exhaust manifold on 95 I've noticed that the exhaust manifold on OBD-2 cars are very header-like in appearance. Has anyone tested the flow characteristics of these compared to that of an OBD-1 manifold? Has anyone experienced installing one of these on a 95? I know that the intake manifolds on the 95 cars flow better but maybe the tubular exhaust manifolds on 96+ cars do the same? Tom

Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 13:33:16 -0500 From: chipm@arches.uga.edu Subject: Re: AC buttons Rob, If I'm not mistaken, the recirc. button also operates the compressor. So, you can have fresh air with the compressor on or off (first button, with second button off) or have recirculated air only with the compressor on (second button on, first button doesn't matter). With the recirc. button on, it's true that the AC button doesn't do anything. Couldn't tell you why, though... Chip M '95 M3, Atlanta

#8. camber shims - from Burgess, Kim L

Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 11:15:35 -0700 From: "Burgess, Kim L" <Kim.Burgess@PSS.Boeing.com> Subject: camber shims Sorry if this is a repeat for some. I would like to install the camber shims (up front) and begin to get a feel for what the difference might be, on my stock street wheel/tire set-up for a 99///M3/2, 225/45-17 front/245/40-17 rear. (Anyone have pictures of the install?) My question is two fold. First: I have recently acquired a set of factory 7.5X17 BMW Motorsport rims, the wish-bone ten spokes (95 M3?). They came with a set of Yokohama A032s - 235/40-17. Will I have clearance problems with 7.5X17 Yokohama A032s 235/40-17 wheel/tire combination up front used in conjunction with the shims, when I swap them out for events? Second: Using 7.5X17 and Yokohama A032s 235/40-17 all around, on a car that employs a suspension system that is 'tuned' for a different wheel/tire combination, what should I anticipate in terms of handling changes from the stock combination? TIA KLBurgess 99///M3/2 BSBBS - not for long!!!

#10. [E36M3] Fuel Leak - from twisty M3

Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 11:46:58 PDT From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] Fuel Leak After 14 hours of bad luck, I got to work this morning thinking all was fine... until someone in our subscription department called me in my office and mentioned that it smelled very strongly of gasoline around my car so I should take a look. I had just filled up before coming in so I thought I may have spilled a little without noticing (very sleepy today). Nope, look underneath and there's a puddle of gas under my driver's side back seat. Doh!!! I called the dealer and my service advisor said to bring it on down right away. They ended up replacing the seal on the fuel sending unit for the left side (they just replaced the sending units for the 4th time last week). It appears to have stopped for now but I guess I won't really know if it's fixed until I fill up again. My question is this, does it make sense that if that seal was bad, you'd get leaking *under* the car? I didn't really notice any fuel smells *in* the car until after it was fixed so I hadn't even considered that, though I thought it was a big coincidence that this could happen 5 days after my Inspection 2. #11. BBS Wheel wrench - from Lew Becker
Top
Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 11:47:34 -0700 From: "Lew Becker" <lmbeckercfls@earthlink.net> Subject: BBS Wheel wrench BTDT. The Tire Rack advised the POS wrench was the only one spec'd for the RC's; but, the folks at BBS did some research for me, and advised that BBS Part No. 59.23.009 would work (sturdy hard plastic 6 pt box wrench, similar to the E30 M3 factory wheel tool; fits snugly around all 6 flats on the wheel cap). BBS suggested that I order the part through the Tire Rack (from whom I bought my wheels). I did, and the Tire Rack sent me one at no charge -- GREAT customer service from both these organizations.
