#3. Momo extender hub for Momo - from Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com

Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2000 12:39:20 -0700 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: Momo extender hub for Momo Regarding aftermarket Momo steering wheels: Yes, I know that this will kill my driver airbag capability. It is for a car mostly driven on the track and me strapped in a harness where the airbag would not do me much good anyway. What is the exact BMW E36M3 steering wheel diameter, the 4 spoke one? Does anyone have any experience purchasing, installing, or using a hub extender for an aftermarket Momo steering wheel for an 1995 E36 M3? Where did you get the Momo hub extender and do you have a part number for it? Is this a willingly or obviously advertised part from Momo or did you or your supplier need to do some digging to get it (i.e. it is not listed in the regular catalog but they have it available to dealers/installers)? How was the horn functionality maintained because doesn't the M3 wheel have a horn "ring" to maintain contact? Is your airbag lit? How did you turn it off? Thanks for your help, Marc Edwards 1995 M3 LTW looking for a new steering wheel

#4. Strange ticking sound - from Darrell Swope
Top
Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2000 15:49:48 -0400 From: Darrell Swope <dswope@s1.com> Subject: Strange ticking sound I have this strange ticking sound in my '96 that I cannot seem to locate. It happens usually when the car is cold like when I first pull out of the garage but not always. If it's not happening already, I can usually gun the accelerator mildly and get it start (with a cold engine). It usually goes away after 3-5 miles. The interesting thing about is that the ticking frequency does not change with the RPMs. Whether the engine is going fast or slow the ticking is always at the same speed. The speed itself is hard to judge but I would guess about 5 TPS (ticks per second). The sound itself seems to come from the driver side and is clearly audible either inside or outside the car. After sticking my head around under the hood for a while I could not really pinpoint the source other than it seemed more pronounced near the front than the near the firewall. Since the speed is constant, I don't really suspect the infamous lifter ticking problem. Anyone else had this happen or have any ideas what causes it? Darrell Swope

I believe Rochester. I recall Wilco staff being very courteous and extremely helpful. Go to www.momo.it or www.momo.com (one works, other doesn't). You'll see contact nos. there. Ask for Momo's catalog. It's free and you also get groovy stickers. The catalog is very colorful and has 1000s of pictures! >>> <Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com> 09/13/00 03:48PM >>> Date: Wed, 13 Sep 2000 12:39:20 -0700 From: Marc.S.Edwards@QuestDiagnostics.com Subject: Momo extender hub for Momo Regarding aftermarket Momo steering wheels: Yes, I know that this will kill my driver airbag capability. I just came up with two more questions: 1) How many cans of the ATE fluid do I need to pick up. Unfortunately, no one can air ship it to me so I have to pick it up locally and they're going to rip me a new one on the price ($18.95 instead of $10 if I ordered it). Is one can good or will two be required? 2) What's the break-in procedure for new euro-rotors? Same as everything else, just take it easy for a couple hundred miles? Or get up to 150 and bring it down as quickly as possible? j/k Jonathan L. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Or maybe if we force everyone to use the list format. Or maybe change the "reply-to" field to something like e36m3-spam@bmwmpower.com so that the poster would have to change that and the subject line.... My car has a Momo hub, plus a RaceTech quick release system. You can see a hint of it on Suzy's web site. I built the RaceTech into the hub adapter. It ends up putting the steering wheel an additional, I don't know, 1.5" (?) inches out from the Momo hub adapter. > >Where did you get the Momo hub extender and do you have a part number for it? No no, it's a perfectly available part. > >How was the horn functionality maintained because doesn't the M3 wheel have a >horn "ring" to maintain contact? Momo provides for that, no problem. The challenge is to get a BMW roundel horn button ... :-) They stopped making those a long time ago, > >Is your airbag lit? How did you turn it off? All my airbag stuff has been removed. The best thing is simply to remove the bulb by pulling out the instrument cluster and replace it with a bulb-less bulb holder. Note that you mention "hub extender". I'm not sure if you're aware, but the Momo hub "adapter" is the normal part you use ... it has a spline to fit the steering column, and then a crushable sheet metal extension that has the usual 6 tapped holes to mount the Momo "street" steering wheels. In addition to this sort of thing, there are aftermarket _hub extenders_ that go between the hub adapter and the steering wheel. Frey Racing in Milpitas, CA used to have some on the counter. They come in thicknesse like 1/2", 1", 2", etc. They're very expensive. HTH, -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com

As far as off topic goes. There is a down key that I always use. But now I have to hold the down button for a minute or more and this is ridiculous. And some time I print them out and read them on the bus. This is wasting of paper, tree....and EVERYBODY TIME. As a punishment, who ever do this again will donate $5.00 to Sue as part of her monthly maintenance fee for this list. Ha, don't complains, you all drive a M///3. If you can't afford the time, don't do the crime. Kin Fong NJ Chapter
