It's kind of a pain the butt, I think it was a 2 hour job, just because I kept dropping things. Ron isn't kidding about that spring... I released it by mistake and it burrowed fairly deeply into my finger tip. *ow* -kit 97 m3

#4. M3 upgrades for track question - from Carey Probst

Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 06:38:45 -0400 From: Carey Probst <hcprobst@alum.mit.edu> Subject: M3 upgrades for track question Currently I'm driving a '99 M3 at the track for driving schools with a few modifications and would like some advice from those with more experience on what would be a good order to add things to the M3 and the designated track car. Hopefully within a year or so this will be a non-track car when we convert my son's '86 325 to a shared track car when he get a new M3 (or takes mine and I get the E46 after he graduates) Additions so far for the track (not all to car) Shock Tower Stress Bars front and rear Schroth 4 point harnesses Ram Air from brake cooling duct K&N filter Daytime running lights Oil Temp/Pressure/Voltage gauges (on order) Convex mirrors without annoying idiot messages (Thanks Chester) Driving Shoes SA95 Helmet Helmet rest (They guys at OG Racing won't call it a neck brace, liability I guess) Simpson Gloves Planned: Brake Pad upgrade (after I get less confused after reading everything on here about pads). Nomex suit (if I can find a giant economy size one ;-) ) 325 has same except for Ram Air and tower braces. Will get cage when converted to track car. Not an option for M3. Fire extinguisher Anybody at the Glen 30 Sept. 1 Oct. for the Genesee Valley BMW CCA driving school I'd like to meet for ideas. Both cars will be there. #5. Brake Bleed question - from Carey Probst
Top
Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 07:02:51 -0400 From: Carey Probst <hcprobst@alum.mit.edu> Subject: Brake Bleed question The Bentley manual says not to bleed the brakes on my '99 M3 because of the traction control, that it needs a special method available only from the dealer. Has anyone tried changing fluid with traction control? I'm having the dealer do it as part of Inspection I before my next driving school but would prefer to do it myself if possible. -- Carey Probst E-Mail: Carey.Probst@oracle.com Perm: hcprobst@alum.mit.edu A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

I can not however, find the hardware used to mount the stock muffler. Does anyone know the part #s or prices for this? I really just need the clips that mount on the edges of the stock muffler. Thanks. Ben 95 M3

#8. E36 prices - from Pieter Van Dien

Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2000 08:14:09 -0400 From: "Pieter Van Dien" <pvd1@worldnet.att.net> Subject: E36 prices Down here in South Florida it seems like prices have increased in the past few months. It used to be you'd see '95s in the low $20s, now they're only a few in this range, most are in the mid to high $20s with newer cars over $30k. I wouldn't use Roundel adds as an indication of market value. They tend to be inflated. Pieter

Basically, the tech procedure writeup is outdated and there is an easier way to reinstall the spring. Basically, you don't reattach the two long bolts going through the back nor do you attach clutch cylinder. You only attach the hinge pin and pin to the pedal and swing the pedal such that the other side of the spring return with that easily lost pin lands into the notch. You can then use the leverage of the pedal to push it down to align the clutch cylinder and then reattach the two long bolts in the back. It's hard to tell if the ASC is really doing anything (since my car continues to accelerate even with the ASC light blinking away), but the few times I've risked high speeds on my snows I usually turn ASC off when this happens. It is easily repeatable by driving along at 70 mph on the highway and trying to accelerate the car with 3/4s throttle. Within 2 seconds the ASC kicks in and begins pulling back throttle. Condition wise, there is absolutely no reason for the ASC to be kicking in. If you turn off the ASC the car drives and accelerates normally. I have an appt. next week with the dealer, but if anyone has experienced this before and can you tell me what the resolution was I would really appreciate it.
